Re: Glow Plug tip breakage
A damn good soaking overnight in a good penetrant (ie not crc) and if they are particularly tight, loosen, squirt, wait, loosen repeat.

Re: Bit of BDA goodness for the old timers....
20 years or so ago there was a guy in Ashburton who raced a rotary powered escort. He was fast and from memory a bit mad when behind the wheel :D Grasshopper! No idea on what his real name was..... Was a regular at Levels. he rallied, rolled, bowled, arseholed, raced and probably shagged that thing!

Re: opinions on nissan terrano
-Physical dimensions - the Nissan is a slightly undersquare design giving it lower COG. (66" wide x 65" tall) versus (66" wide x 73" tall). (and Isuzus for that matter) are highly underrated and I always like to support the underdog. Wouldn't the height of the engine and running...

Re: Adding 2-stroke oil to diesel?
Yes but the thing with too much 2 stroke is the sulphur levels will be much much higher than old diesel. I'm confused by the forum comments about less DPF blockage and regen, as all the technical information suggests there will be more. Think about it, the lowering of sulphur in diesel allowed the u...

Re: Adding 2-stroke oil to diesel?
i don't think sulfur will be much of an issue. but certainly you don't want to put to much in. if its changing ignition time/lag time or burn rate then to fast is as bad as to slow. most say around 200:1 but what works for you will vary. i would put as little as possible in. too much and it creates...

Re: Adding 2-stroke oil to diesel?
I was never really convinced by anything I read that it actually improved the fuel burn etc I agree. it seems it won't make the fuel burn worse either. One aspect though could be how sulphur is it putting in? I'm of the opinion you only need a tiny amount. like 300/400-1 Too much sulphur would wear...

Re: Adding 2-stroke oil to diesel?
Been doing some reading. I'm leaning towards it being a good thing, on older engines though. Here's some interesting reading: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/76-speciality-forums/64-maintenance-fluids/177728-lubricity-additive-study-results-10.html Long thread, so I will copy and paste an very info...

Re: Newbie in Nelson
Must have full mud tyres. A/T not allowed. It's delayed, not stopped. Just no budget for $1200-1800 of wheels and tyres. Only some trips need mud tyres. There's no rule stopping you from joining up now, then up-speccing your vehicle to suit(and I'm sure everyone in club would be glad if you do). If...

Re: New and from Queenstown
I'm so jealous of that area! Was there in November and went up the Carricktown track as far as the Australian water wheel. Had to turn back after that due to ruts and being on our own. Scared the missus good too :D Was going to carry on through the Nevis to Kingston but there had ben slips and I was...

Re: Newbie in Nelson
Yeah that's what I thought, but I have talked personally to the club safety officer and it is the rule. http://www.4wdnz.net/nelson-4wd-club-rules/ I asked it good AT tyres counted as "approved" and was told no, they have to be full mud tyres. Seems it stems from a few incidents back in th...

Re: Adding 2-stroke oil to diesel?
Thanks, I did google. I like to know the tech behind why you do things or don't. 99% of the hits on google are similar threads on forums with lots of "felt better to me" all based around the lowering of sulphur, and ignoring that sulphurs lube qualities have been replaced by other additive...

I've gone to chch a few times to go out with mates, in fact it was a Waipara river trip that convinced me I needed a 4wd :D Must have full mud tyres. A/T not allowed. It's delayed, not stopped. Just no budget for $1200-1800 of wheels and tyres. But hopefully that will be sorted soon, should have the...

Re: Newbie in Nelson
Cheers guys
Is there much non club 4wd stuff around here? With all the forestry it seems access to tracks is a bit limited.
I do intend to join the club, the only reason I haven't yet is the rule about mud tyres. Otherwise I'd have been in a year ago.
I just want to go for a play!

Re: Adding 2-stroke oil to diesel?
This is a new one on me... Can anyone provide any data or tech study outside of "sounds quieter to me" Re the lots of failing pumps when the dropped sulphur, none failed. They just leaked. The sulphur kept some of the rubber soft and the lower content made the rubber go hard. On the Toyota...
