My parents are wanting to sell their SWB diesel patrol, theyve just bought a rav 4 which suits their needs better. Diesel, Auto, approx 215xxx ks, std patrol steel wheels an 31" bfg muddies, 2" lift, 2 new batteries an starter rebuilt last month an I put a brand new (not recon) alternator ...

Re: FJ40 gets a paint job
Looking good so far, just be wary of those el cheapo hi torque starters. Mine lasted as far as a little play in some mud puddles, filled up with mud an burnt itself out so I bought one of those big old chev starters 2nd hand for $50 an haven't had any trouble since

There is a 'rumour' going 'round' that 4x4s will be limited to 33 inch max tyres (measured horizontally at axle) for heavy trucks, 32 inch -medium, and 31 for light, for access to rural properties and 'other' Tax payer land in the South Island....Oh dear... rumour. thanks, we will wait for more pos...

Re: Bullbars - The Australian way
Ill upload some of the pics I've got from over here(queensland) hid lights an roo bars are a must. On my way to work this week I came across 6 cows sleeping on the road at 5am. An hour up the road I passed skid marks a falcon one tonner an a dead bull. If the utes still there I'll take a pic of the ...

Re: panhard top mount ?
I can understand how bringing the mounting point up would make it drive a bit nicer but I also thought you would want to square up the axle to the chassis? ( assuming the axle is pulled to the right given how much lift youve got, that's why I suggested lengthening the panhard rod as apposed to modif...

Why not just cut the panhard an extend it, moving the mounts seems like more work than is necessary

Bling
Very jealous this already sounds like the kind of build I've been pondering/dreaming of doing for a few years now but haven't had time or money to start.
Scratch built chassis is definitely the way to go. What engine an trans are you planning for it?

Treps, creepys, Irocs, Goodyear Mtrs, BFG Krawlers, theres plenty available but as said above freight is the killer as there seems to be bugger all brought into nz. Theres plenty available here in OZ an the treps seem to be best value for money by far. Most winch/race trucks run 37"s. I know th...

Does the pedal always go to the floor or just after he's done the brake test an boiled the brake fluid in your calipers? Does the pedal feel ok when you've bled it an adjusted the shoes?

Can't help with a drawing but if your really stuck is it possible (I know it's not ideal) to partially disassemble the opposite side to see how it is supposed to all go together?

Every ute an 4x4 you see out in central Queensland has at the very minimum, an Arb bar fitted. Those 5 post bars are also very common. It's not just the hillbillies that have them  The Arb bar on my hilux has saved it from a few Roos already, but I've only hit small ones. Don't see too many str...

Re: BJ Gearbox into FJ
Are the two input shafts the same overall length? I never measured the two I had but if they were is there any reason you couldn't just get the right spline clutch plate an keep the fine spline input. That said in the bj an fj boxes I had there was a big difference in gear ratios

As far as painting the outside of the chassis goes, you'll be surprised how far a liter of por15 will go I put 3 coats in the inside of the tub on my fj40 an still had some left over to do the front chassis rails an that was a half liter tin, as saddam said it must be top coated tho
