d21 lsd rear diff

Postby nissandatsun » Sun Aug 30, 2015 7:41 pm

hi so ive got a 91 nissan datsun doublecab ute that im doing up,it has a td27+t engine with the 5 speed manual box,now its got leaf springs in the rear and a weak open diff and I have a terrano parts truck that has an lsd rear same engine but auto box,my question is this, #1) can you just grind off the mounts you dont need and mount the lsd as the old diff was on the leaf springs bearing in the mind there is no trailing arms or torque rods in the ute so it just relies on the u bolts to the springs to hold the diff in and im worried the heavier lsd diff will require more support than that. #2)does anyone know the diff ratios and can tell me if the two diffs (manual v auto) are the same or not? thanks for any answers given

so what diff is currently in there, a R200/C200?
if so, have you considered selling the terrano h233b LSD and buying a LSD for the C200? the R200 diff is plenty strong enough for your current power output, and won't require a certification, which changing to the big h233b will require, given the engineering changes to mount it.
also, the r200 has much better ground clearance than the massive h233B pumpkin.

REad "lax2wig"s posts on his truck. He started with a C200, replaced it with a big diff, but later mused that he wished he'd kept the c200 rear end , for better clearance. Pretty sure a R200 LSD centre will bolt in to what you have.
I have a very well priced ARB air locker (r200) available if your budget can stretch. Mind you, you have some bits to sell, so you can bridge the gap quite well.

im trying not to need a cert if i can help it,i guess ill have to grind off the extra mounts off terrano lsd and use that one ,atleast i know itl never break,it may be harder for the engine to power being bigger and heavier and the clearance wont be as good but ill just have to get over it

so apon further research i have found out that the diffs i have at the moment are 4.8 to 1 and the ones from the terrano are 4.6 to 1 so am i right to believe that putting the 4.6 diffs in will lower my rpms at 100kmper hour but therefore make it a tad less torquie?

righto so for an update i have now installed the h223b lsd in the rear but it pushed the driveshaft 15-20mm forward which pretty much disintegrated my allready worn hanger bearing so im not sure weather to buy a new hanger bearing or make up a new one piece drive shafft has anyone attempted this ??
