Unless the 373 nuggets are differant to the 411s then it is only the "bit inbetween" that is fitted. You reuse your cw&p.

That said im not familar with what your vehicle is

I have started to entertain the idea of using the Aircon pump...
one of the guys in the club has this exact setup...
Driving both his ARBs and onborad air... all with some trick pipes and an old fire extinguisher bottle...
works a treat

You can't just take the diff head out of a Jeep to regear..... Or fit a locker. Dana diffs don't work like that.

You can fit an elocker which eliminates the whole compressor expense. There are some good options out there without air.

A lot of factory ones now are elocker for simplicity of the control system.

Sure being a Jeep you can get a Detroit full carrier replacement auto locker for the rear??

We run them in the rear of the Defenders, $1200 landed at your door, fit your self with a socket set and a dial gauge

You can use thick cut gears for regearing in future. That way you use old locker with new gears. Just double your labour cost, once now and again in future for reinstall.

the smallest ARB compressor is about $230 plus freight(v small unit) but basically any 12v compressor will do the job. Even a cheap repco 40 dollar one could be set up to work. The volume of air required to lock the diff is vey low, so even a low quality unit will last ages,as it is far less taxing than inflating a tyre.

not quite right.

cheap ones often don't handle doing high pressure. they handle tire pressures ok but some are even sold with warning not to go above certain pressures. by mem its a lot lower than what you use for lockers.
by the time you go fixing and modding a cheap compressor you might as well have just bought an ARB.

This post played out the way i was hopping...

After all the banter above, i doubt very much i will opt for a front auto locker...

My mind and budget will likely swing the way of a Detroit Locker in the rear... for the time being...
and then depending on lifes other factors, may be one of those gold plated thingies up front... later...

35's & D30's do not play nicely together. Even D44's are marginal for big rubber.

Rigs I have seen with autolockers in the front have always been good at sliding sideways off the track. Good traction in some conditions though.

I like my Eaton E-locker. No shit on the $$$$ though. I'd like a front one too but that can wait a bit.

My last google was Detroit vz OX... and ARB vs OX
and OX is only US$200 over a detroit (plus the shifter handle)

and my last YouTube was (adjusting Backlash)
i have phoned a few places... and they all seam to say its a days work to install bearing, Carrier, and adjust = Around $700 - $800 + gst

Does anyone have a "Diff Guy" - West Auckland / North Shore (or what have you)

talk to people did some reading and selectable best bet as sees road time ......so yeah cost heaps but had to go that way...like others say open front lock back watch where ya point it ie driving styles be sweet.... :mrgreen:

I have autos front and rear in my hilux and had them in my old surf as well. They are great bang for buck. I wouldn't hesitate to have one in the back but would prefer selectable in the front. I wouldn't put one in the front of a full time 4wd. I have a split shifter so can go 2wd low range which is good on longer easy sections. Steering if pretty heavy with it in 4wd With the Lokka in the front

I keep hearing this, but Sav ran a basically stock (or actually stock?) D30 front end on his jeep with 35" Silvys and never had a diff issue (and won all the bloody competitions). So I guess it comes down to how you drive. Personally I'd still want some thing bigger than a D30.
