Winch for my hilux

Postby simintrev » Fri Jul 08, 2016 12:39 pm

Hey guys after having to chainblock off a tree for 4 hours i decided it was about time i got a winch.
I have a ln106 hilux pretty standard at this stage and was wondering what you guys recommend.

Was looking at this runva winch and this mudstuck one.

neither of those options
he runva is a rock crawling winch with only 14m of rope

the green unit is way slow for what it is

personnally throw another hundy at it for one of these units
http://www.winch.co.nz/categories/runva ... 2v-dyneema
26m of rope and fast on easy recoveries with plenty of power
on harder recoveries double purchase using a pully block and line speed will still be better than the green unit but with twice the strength

value for dollar its up there imo

I'd second Mudlva's comments.
I have the Runva he has linked and it is a good unit. Actually I have the next model up, but essentially the same winch.
Just pull it apart and check all the seals are present and correctly fitted between the motor and drum and gearbox. Mine weren't and water killed my motor in 6 months. It was repaired under warranty though. :-)

I have the EWX9500-Q on my Wrangler.
I cant rate it highly enough...!!!
It has pulled me and others out of some hairy situations... (granted my Wrangler is probably lighter than yours...(1800kgs))
I ran it without issue for a couple of years on a 650CCA battery, altho i now have an Optima.

Added to the cost of the winch were lengths of cable to keep everything else happy and dry hidden away in the engine bay...

Good option for winch battery is the yellow top http://www.4wdstuff.co.nz/catalog/batteries-optima
Can also agree that the EWX9500-Q (9,500lb) is good or even the EVO version which is a little bit faster, but also as said above the waterproofing is not as good as they suggest, if it is being submerged good idea to strip, clean out and regrease.

Another tick for the RUNVA 9500-Q. Running on a Clubman truck (Disco) in Mainland Winch Challenge series. Two rounds done with no winch problems and pretty impressed at the price. Running 2 x 600cca batteries
