Novawinch
Novawinch
Hi,
Looking at winches for my truck at the moment, a guy in our group doesn't like helping others with his winch when needed , so I figure I'll get my own to help everyone out
Looking at a Novawinch on 4wdbits... Anyone have any reviews on these? The one that takes my interest is 11,800lb and is able to be customised a bit, eg go from a 5.2hp motor to 6.8hp, change the gearing to make it faster (from 196:1 to 163:1) and bronze drum bushes, all of which I like. Comes to $1280 for that lot. Does it sound like a decent winch?
It'll be going on a LWB Pajero. Not winch challenge or anything super serious. Just pulling myself and others out of sticky situations when a snatch/tow won't work.
Thanks

Awesome, thanks mate. I'll give him a ring this week.
Re: Novawinch
Can't really give advise on electric winches as I run PTO but IF you ever need help after purchasing a Novawin Phil Clarke is excellent to deal with, unlike another person who sells a different brand of winches in NZ.
Re: Novawinch
Awesome, that's really good to know. I emailed him so waiting for answer, but thinking it's going to be the way to go.

Re: Novawinch
Cheers mate but I've decided I'll go with the Novawinch, Phil had good things to say, and he was honest. Said I didn't need the change of gearing or the bronze bushes, they are only for extreme winch challenge use.
So for $990ish I get 11,800lb, 6.8hp and good after sales service. He has every part in the winch on the shelf should something fail.
Plus it can still be upgraded down the track if I want, can even put 2 motors on it!
Thanks for keeping an eye out tho.

Re: Novawinch
Downside to most of these winches is they are so dam slow with no load. Pull forever though. Pity about the backup from the other brand as on paper the Q seems to be a winner.

Yea that's what I dislike most about winching. Seen some fast electric winches on youtube but I'd say you pay for that luxury.
What do you mean the Q?
No load speed for the nova is 7.5 metres per minute.

Re: Novawinch
Runva 9500 Q, no load line speed of 15.3m/min
Even my old warn xd9000 has a line speed of 11.5m/min (paid $1350 for it 10 yrs ago!)

look at the reduction gearset rating + the Q stands for EWX9500-Q EVOLUTION runva winch i suspect, and is 80:1 Ratio; 8.7HP Motor; Enlarged Drum so on paper is a way better winch with speed and hp but tbh.. probably blow the gearbox to pieces.. lol
Re: Novawinch
lol beat me to it..
Re: Novawinch
Hmmm interesting reading the specs on them all. That's some fast winching. But then the Nova slightly out does the warn for speed when under max load, also has a gruntier motor.
Runva seems to beat the Nova hands down for speed and power. But 80:1 verse 196:1... Wouldn't the Runva be working a lot harder for the same result? (Thus wear out faster, and have to get new parts which I've heard bad things about from the supplier.) Nova would just be cruzing for the same load being so much lower gearing? Plus the bigger drum on the Runva would be a source of a lot of its speed would it not?

Re: Novawinch
what you need is a mid mount 12000lb for slow grunty pulls and a quicker 9500lb on the front.

Yup, but I think most recommend the normal Q model, not the Evo, its the 1:110 ratio (IIRC).
Have you seen/heard the Q's blowing gearbox's with normal use? Just curious. I have spend a few hundred on my warn motor over the years - usually to do with the earth (fixed properly now) but the gearbox has never been a problem, just stripped it from new, got rid of all the grease and just run Moreys in it.
