Postby lax2wlg » Wed Jan 14, 2015 2:01 am

selling my modified '88 Terrano complete & as is with seven BFGoodrich 33" tyres/rims included, and recovery equipment (genuine Hi-Lift). If interested please contact or comment.

WOF expired January, reg. on hold, diesel KMs will be up to date when sold. Needs new windscreen and couple other things (see bottom). Could be kept on the road, or as a parts goldmine, or as a dedicated bush/farm vehicle.

Detailed Thread with pics: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=34933

Short Version: 1988 3-door,'98 Atlas engine, 5spd (later big box), clutch last year, 8" LSD front, 9.25" Lockrite Rear, 4.88s, HD steering, various other mods. Reg till March, WOF expired 5 December 2014, RUCs will be up to date upon sale. Has been off road extensively but has not been beaten on. No cert.

Long Version:
Feb 1988, originally factory non-turbo, no electrics, 2-door (softer front springs, around 300kg lighter than 4 door), manual sunroof model, no rear seats, decarpeted, no spare tyre carrier, TJM winch compatible front bar (no winch cradle), 1“ body lift, rated hooks 2x front 1x rear. Recent paint/panel (durapox epoxy), recent body damage (repairable, moderate). Will add picture.

‘98 Atlas blacktop engine uses no oil/water (prev owner said it had less than 50,000km, but I have no proof of this), new OEM waterpump last year, Isuzu intercooler, 3 inch dump, 2.5 inch exhaust and muffler, side exit. Raised air intake, Exide 650cca battery new in Aug 2014, new radiator when I bought it (however has a few bent fins now), new oil/filter last week.

4.875:1 OEM diff gears, 8“ R200A front diff with 4-pinion reconditioned & modified Nissan LSD & solid pinion spacer, diff drop bushings, 28 spline V6 axles (double offset joint), V6 brakes, Warn locking hubs.

R30A 5-speed transmission (the 400hp ‘big box’), standard 2.02:1 transfer (large chain model), Exedy standard model clutch last year, slave/master cylinders done. H233 2-pinion rear axle, (31 spline disc brake semifloat), Lokka locker, new cross shaft/bearings.

Rough Country chromo upper A-arms w/ new OEM bushings, tension rod bushing mod, idler arm delete, 2wd steering mod (Japanese parts), heavy duty tierods. Rancho +2“ rear shocks, I-beam type rear lower arms.

Black interior, vinyl door trim, dirty bench seat (3 seat belts factory mounts), Auber EGT, water temp/voltmeter, Carling switches, sturdy rear cargo box/sleeping platform, new tailgate struts.

Seven BFGoodrich MTs - two 33x9.5s on (90%), and five 33x10.5s (50%). Three of the 10.5s and both the 9.5s are mounted on 15x7 factory alloys. I put the 9.5s on the front and intended to rotate the other four 10.5s on the rear, while still having a full size spare.

Also Set of steel rims with 31x10.5 roadies included. Two Goodyear Wrangler ATs (good cond) and two shithouse tyres that need replacing.

Genuine HiLift Jack, snatch strap, recond. Hitachi alternator, spare starter motor, spare clutch slave.

About 300k on the frame.

For WOF:
Windscreen cracked
Handbrake cable needs fixing, drums probably need cleaning out too
Needs Pass. front wheel bearing (driver side just done w/ OEM bearings)
Speedo cable broke
1x Pass side rear trailing arm bush shot
May pass - Little bit of endplay in lower ball joints (stupid TRW brand)

Other things:
Alternator getting noisy, reconditioned genuine Hitachi replacement included.
Slow leak from short side front axle seal.
Slow leak Output shaft seal in transfer case

Bump. I dont want to sell but its just sitting in NZ in storage which I have to pay for every month.
Selling this thing is like trying to get a BJ out of a nun but persistence is key I think. But I dont want to sell it to a priest because he might use the bench seat to play with little boys, which I think is morally wrong.

Seriously if my living arrangements weren't so difficult id be tinkering away at this thing right now. Just watched that "toyotas for breakfast" clip and loved it, you can see that front LSD really helping out there. What was the crunch on the surf? cv im guessing?

Yeah that was way before I started really playing with the IFS, now it has almost double the droop travel of that video. That video was before I rebuilt the front LSD, so it was just the locked rear end pushing her through. 1500rpm, no worries. Its more a demonstration of weight distribution\wheelbase. If you watch the comparison with the radius arm Patrol it more accurately shows the front ends ability to really cling down to the terrain. Coilovers is next.

Now with the modified LSD, even when you lift a wheel, it transmits power to the other wheel. So its pretty much a permanent 60/40 split.

Yeah on the toyo, outer CV blown to pieces. Ironically the Toyo IFS CVs of that era were actually bigger than the solid axle equivalent. Really good guy the previous owner of that 4Runner, but lets face it, if you put the hammer down mid-air time in any vehicle with tyres that big, somethings going to let go. Interestingly that vehicle had an 8 inch Supra diff in the front.

It sounds ridiculous but I still have vivid dreams about the Terrano. Dreams of long travel IFS with over 12 inches of travel on each end, perfectly balanced, and dual cases and narrow 35 inch tyres, I think I love that vehicle more than I have loved any woman. Or man for that matter. Not that I am into that sort of shit.

Jason basics yeah mate lets hit up Fukuoka and get on the razz, get a few of those six percent Asahi beers going.

Rock onwards.
