Farm Delux

Post by NJV6 »

Wanted a sound single cab Hilux for the farm, but they are waaaaaaaay overpriced so decided to build one from some bits
Got a body as an insurance write off, it was a mates one that had a mess with a fence and gravity and what not. This one comes with new gearbox, a sound rebuilt 2.8 turbo.
It was a good hilux but the shell was a bit doomed.

& now.

Picked up a Single cab for $350, was a bit buckled around one inner guard, come with new door.

Drove it into the shed at 8:30, got a mate up to help bob_or_jim

Still got plenty of Copper Creek mud in the radiator by the looks

Towed it into the shed as far as possible

Pushed the rest

Worked a bit of magic with some ropes and pullys

Ghost lux

Lowered onto trailer,, then lifted off under a good branch

Lunch time.
Dragged the body to under some more trees & rigged up an engineering masterpiece, its always good to put your 4WD gear to use

Sitting pretty

Discovered rear body mounts in a different place

Towed it into the shed for me once steering connected & that was one day

Now, stripping all parts/electrics over from blue to silver as I know blue worked fine. Ground one chassis mount off, going to do a little bit of rust tidy up before its mounted on the chassis.

Now thats what I need at my place.. Two opposing big trees... To lift my body off the chassis . If I plant them now, at the pace I am going they will be big enough to do the job when I am ready..
Good work there !.

:D

From here, the silver cab had had a shunt in the front right and the front right was the best part of blue. So cut a bit out on one and added it from the other

Loaded onto the trailer for a trip to the paint shed. It was going to be Blue (hence everything under the bonnet and under the cab being bright blue!) but being a tight arse and having paint left over from the last paint job meant it was red(ish).

The deck came from Trade me and was a pretty good deal but not perfect, it needed the rear two beams cut out from rust and a new lump of ply but it fitted and that the main thing. 2 new deck mounts needed to be made on each side at the front which is the only thing that differs on a single cab to a double cab hilux chassis.

It was about now I got carried away.

To tight to buy new tractor grip tyres at $600 a piece, I had a set of 35 in Simex, But they were not just going to fit. So in went a 50mm body lift, shifted the front axle forward 30mm by redrilling the spring perch, shortened the torque arm and steering rod, got a driveshaft spacer.

I got surf front guards with the flares as it was obvious they would be needed to retain some remote chance of cleanliness.

From China in came 30mm wheel spacers so I could fully turn again without the tyre hitting the steering box.

2 door Surf front door innards and trim on the drivers side to give me the electric windows I wanted, It was actually just the passenger side I wanted electric but drivers one came 1st. Still need passenger side surf window motor!

But I am more than happy with the result, very impressed with the power to turn the 35's
