Somafter my post about scratch built rules i have just purchased a l71 mwb coiled cruiser chassie

The plan since chassie bit longer is
-hilux cab 99 or newer hopefully
-1kz manual pump 14psi boost
-2inch lift
-33 maybe 35 but for what i do 33 prob be heaps
-tube bar with wimch, brush bars and steps
-custom tray with canvas canopy
-roof top tent
-side sun shad/awning
-rear locker


It mainly going to be for hunting so wont to set it up so it can be a base camp

Going to rebuild diffs first up, chassie will need new mounts for everything then get blasted and painted. Will be a slow project but will keep people up to date as i go

Have a long think about the awning idea if you are looking at a full caravan type awning, not just a pull out shade. My truck had a full awning when I got it, was a great camp setup but too often I wanted to set up camp in a nice spot then use the truck to go further up the valley or collect wood or something. Was a pain with the vehicle being "fixed" to the camp. Just a thought, sure you've already chewed that over a bit.

So picked up chassie gave it a good bath, boys at lineside want me to keep them posted on how i go

Turns out ita a bundy cab so need to do research on suspension parts, its pretty clean

Decided one got mounts sorted it will be hot dipped

Next weekend il strip chassie back and hopefully get diffs out from under it to start rebuilding them

Little bit of work tonight, just steering box to come off and un bolt radius arms and it will be a striped chassie

Yup Bundy chassis, have one shock in front one behind rear diff. Not trying to be picky but your original post says you picked up Mwb chassis, there just swb. Be cool to extend it tho while its all apart! Cool build.

I got told by few people the bundy chassie is a bit longer than the later model prados, its about a foot shorter sitting next to mates single cab hilux, once cab is sitting on chassie i will see if i need to extend it

Picked up a terrano diesel tank, going to work perfect. But now i have decided im for sure moving rear diff back a foot before i can start making mounts.

Have now decided to go kzj95 rear diff so i have disc brakes, wider track, and also means no offest rear diff head.

Hasnt been much progress silly season is starting at work (harvest)

But i have got some 50mm lift coils coming from ironman with hopefully the right load ratings

Also found my cab a tidy ln106 missing front clip but will put surf front end on

So things looking good now to buy a gbox and motor and start setting shit up!

Cab sitting on.. Looks like 4 mounts will bolt straight up.... Fingers crossed

Drivers side front wheel is 35.. Passangers is 31... It has 2inch apring lift happy with cab height how it sits now

Looks like its gonna be a pretty cool rig man, whats the clearance like with the 35 on the rear? Looks like it'll be pretty close to the body or is it just the angle of the pic?

Havent got 35 all round yet (only came on one) but yes rear is close but getting different rear diff and going back a foot too sp it will match a surf wheel base

You've probably worked this out already but for rear suspension use the 4 link + panhard setup to match the KZJ95 diff rather than adapt the original LJ71 rear suspension arms on. 4 links just work heaps better.

Anything but....

Hosed it out and pulled some of dash out, must have got half a ton of sand out easy... Aircon box is ful to brim to... Cant see anyrust so hopefully fish pil in sills will prevent any to

So picked up another cab... Using doors, rear window, loom and some dash parts in mine...

Rims turned up off 4wdbits, got tyres on and then fitted...

Picked up some mint 130 flared front guards and grill lights ready for surf front....

So now looks like....

So last night i managed to drag it over to work shop cause we had a early knock off due to this nice rain we got..

I manage to do some grinding and now have factory hilux rubber body mounts fitted.. All 4 mounts inside cab are going to work out perfect had to cut front 2 at grill off chassie as they are to far back... Now just to get some longer bolts and nuts and cab will be bolted down

Off to toms at easter to get rear diff sorted

And to be honest i probably dont need to get tom to push rear diff back but i still wouldnt mind it a foot longer in wheel base than factory bunderra wheel base

while you've got the chance push the wheelbase out, get rid of those useless rear trailing arms and link it the thing will be far more stable, capable and drivable offroad you wont regret it

Yer still going to as i want to change to a centre diff head rear diff anyway.. Its the bundy chassie so arms actually flex more than the later model ones but i am going 4 link

Well the truck is now in the capable hands of tom @tomsoffroad to get rear diff swapt in for later model, heavier rear cross member and hopefully a motor and box fitted once sourced

Looks good. Are you going to have a std-ish 4 link + panhard setup or ditch the panhard & go for triangulated top links?

So i let tom get a wee bit carried away with grinder... But im happy with the out come now not only is wheel base a match to surf but also chassie is longer giving me more room to fit things in chassie rails
