okay so took the springs out got the rear ones shortened about 30 mm they just cut out one coil and fitted them last weekend

Image

heaps of room now i can actually see the axle

Image

definite improvement over the previous ride height on the back

Image

have put the new springs in the front these ones actually fit the ones they sent over originally looked so wrong i didn't even try to fit them and when yorick dropped them off to get them sorted the guy thought they might have been muddled up from another job
they are fitted now but without an engine in the front it isn't sitting where it will be so no point posting a pic

regards the fuel tank.......

You have a full ladder chassis, dont you?
If you do a wee body lift, you now have a place between the chassis cross members to put one or TWO tanks and be able to make slimline ones, and as they are BETWEEN to whe4els, and above the bottom of the chassis rails, are well away from stuff you may possibly hit when going over a lump etc.

Worth looking at.
What you think, De-ranged?

it may look like the tank is low but when you look at it from the side it doesn't look anywhere near as bad the bottom of the tank does ramp up quite a bit. i am not going to do anything with the tank at this stage got to take it out first and if the tank is still an issues will look at other things but considering i am thinking about a set of 33" tyres that will lift it up even more and give even better angles

okay had a bit of a setback today did some work on the g wagen put the new brake lines on they look so good now
then did a few other little things bolted the torque converter to the flywheel mounted the radiator so i could put oil in the trans
that is about where things started to take a turn
then decided it would be kewl to run it in now it is in the g so started it up and it was running for a few seconds
then it came to a sudden stop tried turning it over with the starter motor no go
put the bar on the crankshaft and the motor is solid no movement at all
so remove the rocker cover and discover the timing chain is broken loverly okay decide this needs more investigation drain the oil from the sump and remove the sump this is when i find something has got jammed between the oil pump drive chain the shaft in the oil pump looks like it is bent not sure for certain yet as i decided it was time to stop when i saw that mess

hopefully the shaft on the oil pump isn't bent if it is i am screwed

so am a little down in the dumps today

i've gone off the V8 idea but a 3 litre petrol inline six will go in quite nicely and give me about the same amount of power as the V8 with better fuel economy

i am not so keen on a diesel now especially the way diesel seems to be increasing in price more than petrol
with the current price and taking road user charges into account i am better off to have a petrol motor

okay got into the motor today to have a closer look at what happened last weekend
excuse the crap pics only had my cellphone
first thing removed the sump to find this
Image

not kewl
Image

the offending item
still not sure where it came from
Image

cracked pump housing
Image

and a slighty bent shaft on the oil pump
Image

there is a bit of a silver lining there are scores on the inside of the pump and one of the gears had rust on it so not sure how long the pump would have lasted anyway

i did a similar thought but i was thinking more along these lines
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/MercedesBenz/auction-162983249.htm

unfortunately that is a little out of my budget but this could do the trick

the only reason i am having issues with the oil pump is the cheap arse mechanic i am using besides if i get this motor sorted it will last another 500,000 ks without too much hassle

mind you the M110 which is the 2.8litre dohc motor has a good rep and as a result i can get one for peanuts because the motors never die and most people when doing mods use one of the V8s
the M110 had 185hp at the end of it's production run which is enough
or i could get an M104 which produces around 200hp

i'd rather have a six and use it properly
the ultimate would be a 6 litre V12

well since the incident with the oil pump it has been on hold while i tried to source another one but haven't had much luck with that so am looking at options

main options are a petrol repower
or fitting the turbo and inj pump off the turbo motor to the original motor

i just realised i haven't kept you guys up to date with the latest
on the 15th of august went up to auckland to get this
Image
loaded it up about 9pm on a friday night   then drove back to my place and then took it down to yoricks on saturday morning towed it behind his g wagen did quite well considering it has only got 88hp
Image
here it is parked in yoricks shed
Image
and this is the reason i bought it ran it while it was in the car fired straight away sounds sweet as the oil in it is almost new apparently a garage had swapped the engine but the owner left the country and eventually the garage sold it to recover costs
so on the sunday the engine was out of the car

i'm heading down there today to make a start on doing the swap my biggest issue will be sorting out the engine mounts as i will have to fab some and sorting out the fuel system as it has fuel infection and i will have to sort out the pump will be interesting

woohoo it is sitting in the hole

Image

tis getting a bit close here
and have to rethink my engine mounts i measured and measured again and then cut and drilled but made them using the original engine as a guide but the intake manifold on this engine sticks out and hits the left hand shock tower when i try to use my fabbed mounts

so did a bit of research on pointed three g wagen forums and learnt the g engine has a different intake manifold to the car engine

luckily i know where there is one but not sure if he is willing to seperate it from the engine

hey it does see mud
but only for short periods
have got much planned for the weekend even taking tomorrow off work to do some stuff on it
rang that guy about the g wagen intake and he is willing to sell as long as i buy the transmission that yorick has been eyeing up
then will try and fit the motor again hopefully things will fit better with that manifold

then got to figure out the fuel system and the ignition system and it might be running

had a most productive week on the g
rang the guy with the old g wagen engine and asked him if he was willing to sell the intake manifold
he said i could have the engine and trans for $400
i said yeah because yorick is keen on putting the auto trans in his g
on friday chatted to the local cert guy and he basically confirmed what i thought that basically all he was worried about was making sure the engine mounts were welded by a competent welder i said i was planning on fabbing them but would get someone to weld them he then gave me a number of someone who quite enjoys doing cert type stuff so that is sweet
he also mentioned i will need a drive shaft loop on the front drive shaft but i think i may not need one as the front driveshaft runs above a major chassis member but i will check this out with him again

saturday went to get the engine and trans and he wasn't there so oh well back to the workshop and more tinkering noticed i had more clearance issues with the oil filter housing and oil lines and also the power steering pump so was thinking about them trying to figure how to solve them
also gave yorick a bit of a hand with his latest project

sunday
went and picked up the g engine and trans (rang him beforehand this time) noticed when i picked it up that it has a different oil filter housing and power steering bracket so my major clearance issues were solved just like that

so now my motor is sitting in the g in position just got to get the mounts made up and she will be bolted into place then i have to figure out what i am going to do with the fuel and ignition systems

So does the engine out of that mafia car bolt straight up to your trans? Which bell housing are you using? :?:
