I reckon keep the draw bar as long as practical and move the axle back.

Long draw makes for nice towing manners and also helps reversing in a straight line.

ok after much think and pondering more mods coming soon
she doesn't have much go and even less woh, time for a brake mod so ............................................

Have sourced I think a bake pedal ,box and master cylinder and booster from a vitara , now to source front and rear brake calipers to suit
but will need to fit grand vitara rotors to suit the stud pattern 310 x 22mm for the front one I think and 287 x 22 for the rears, would like to include the handbrake in the rear calipers am so over the current set up

Beside the Suzuki ones are there other option's ?????????? Toyota , Holden , Mazda

once this is done she may get a power upgrade .....................................................................................................................................................

comments suggestions

well been pondering and thinking and just plan putting stuff off

have pulled old brake pedal and have temp bolted in the vitara one I got off V8rapid? just got to work out the pedal travel before I bolt it up properly
anyone with the distance of the pedal travel, due to my floor can't work it from the floor.

have a set of commy front calipers here and a set that turoa gave me they may be getting bolted in for a starter, unless I left the drums on for now, Thoughts

and still debating about a power upgrade thinking commy v6 with an auto, the commy auto would be too long I think must get under one of the one's in the garage and measure it

well that bout all folks

What about keeping it all jeep by using a modern 6, or would a straight 6 be to long? You could always carburetor it to avoid the fuel injection thing. Depends on budget I suppose.

Breaks, sounds like your on the right track. Put up some pics once you get your parts. Would be interested to see what you come up with as a friend has a mitsubishi jeep with drum breaks on the front. If you go through a creek then put the breaks on, it rips the steering out of your had and tries to drive off the road!

I have a pattern here for bolt on brackets to suit a Suzuki caliper/rotor for the front and rear's from memory
budget whats that??? commy stuff seem ok in price but it's the extra bit's that cost the money have thought bought jeep stuff but don't come across that every day

cheers guys

You might need a pile of spare axles if you get a grunter under the bonnet Warren! There used to be one getting around down here with a Rover V8 in it, the old falcon engines, chev 4.3's were a few about too and a couple of the capri v6's like Dad's.

I reckon a little light (150kg) 3.9v8 from a wrecked Disco as they are extremely cheap to buy, SU carbs and manifold from a 3.5v8, an HEI dizzy and what ever trans you like, Auto or manual, and its already going to have the t.Case with it.

No adapting a T.Case to the back of the already long commy auto, and no wiring up the EFI commy engine.

Just a reliable, simple to work on, cheap to buy, cheap to get parts for, light weight full alloy V8 :D :D

it's still contaminated form spending too many years in the same area as rovers
do agree with Glen may end up putting a few new axles/ drive shaft's in with too much power, didn't you know of a set of locked diffs down that way years ago?
4cyl petrol car engine maybe bro in law is a car dismantler

Na they were not locked, just converted to 6 stud and I think disc brakes but no one wanted them so they went to the scrappy.
