Still waiting on TBI manifold to arrive... emailed the guy on Wed as I was hoping to have it by last Friday and he sent this reply "sorry dude, been on overload here. Haven’t sent it yet. I’ll do tomorrow." - grrr.

Took the 40 for a spin around to devils gate just before dark - I'd adjusted the timing the other night to see if I could improve the hot starting issue. Reduced the timing from 14 deg BTDC to 8deg. It's now popping back through the carb under low revs and load. Goes great under revs... still overheats - sigh. I also fiddled with the carb so should stick to one thing at a time.

At some point I'll give the motor a check over - compression, plugs, leads etc etc. I'll also have another play with the carb and swap the jet size down on the primary side.

Still waiting on my manifold. Email him again today and got this email back tonight...

"I went to box the manifold and noticed a few small machine screws were missing. I’m getting some new ones in from specialist fastenings here in Gisborne. They should be here Wed (very rare apparently). Just my luck, but I will not let anything pass thru my hands that I would not be prepared to use myself. I’ll let you know when it is on its way."

I brought it on the 17th FFS!

Well... I still have the FJ. It's been a bit unloved so I started by wire brushing the underside of the body and chassis, well most of it. I think I only have from the front springs forward to finish off now. Along the way I decided to convert the back double opening lower doors into a single fold down item. Then there was the rust in both back quarters. Well it's been over 12 months and I'm on the final push to get it back to a road worthy condition. Some images to give you an idea:

Replaced with:

And something to hold the back tailgate in place when down (basic but adjustable and won't rattle!):
