on going v8 nissan mods
right, i have been asked a few times by different people if i can post up pics of my dads nissan that we have been rebuilding so i thought i should do a hole thing on it. so bassically about 8 years ago my dad got on a plane and went to auckland to buy a standard GQ grandroad safari. He brought it home and a few weeks later a injected 350chev was going into it, over the years it has had many changes like a large variety of tyres, suspension, motors and cvs etc. And around xmas time this year he was geting pissed of with it because it was looking pretty sad as it had only ever really been driven and not maintained because we had been really busy working on our trials truck, so he said it wanted to sell it but with a few arguments and conversations i got him to keep it but i had to rebuild it. So nearly straight away me and a few of my mates were ripping it apart and then i have (with the help of a few people) slowly been putting it back together peice by peice new and improved with the taupo 1000 race in mind. so heres the specs...
*383 chev with alloy heads and TPI injection just been fully rebuilt
* new twin plate clutch
*standard 5 speed nissan manual never been rebuilt haha
*low ratio gears in transfercase
*standard rear diff with arb locker
*standard front GU diff with arb locker and snake racing suspension and steering
*5"suspension lift and 50mm body lift
*ute chop and full exo roll cage
*hydrolic winch mounted at the rear with mump driven off pto
*big air horns haha
* 37x12.5 mickey Ts on the front and 37x14.5 creepys on the rear and both with beadlocks
and probably other things but i cant remember
and after the taupo 1000 we will be moving the diff back with 4 link suspension, putting 40"tyres on it and a twin turbo set up.
heres a few pics of it half way through it life
and heres a few of it half way through its rebuild
getting ready for paint
after sandblast
painting/painted
cutting out alluminium and putting it on (bling )
modding new fibreglass bonnet
twinplate clutch and engine ready to rock
new seats mounted
and this is the stage it is at now, wiring
it should be on the dyno tomorow and home this weekend to get ready for a warrent then its fun time

modding new fibreglass bonnet
Awsome work Is the whole bonnet fibre glass or is it just an insert and if it is an insert where did you get it from and how much as I am going to look at top mounting a intercooler when I put on the new hair dryer as I dont have much room in the front.
Cheers PR

Re: on going v8 nissan mods
the entire bonnet is fibre glass but they were 2 seperate peices, we got the monaro scoop of trademe (there are plenty on there) and the bonnet from 4x4 fibreglass in hamilton i think and then we glued, rivited and bogged it on and you would even know they were a seperate item the first bonnet picture shows them stuck together but just needed the bog sanded
and just a little update, it went on the dyno this morning but had ignition isues. we have now put new coil packs on it off a skyline engine and we used the old dizzy post as the cam angle sensor, but it had 32 teeth and it was a small diameter so when the motor got above 3000rpm the sensor got confused and started sparking the plugs as if it was a 4000rpm. so were going to use the crank angle sensor set up of a nissan VH45 and still put it in the dizzy cap. So it should be back together to be dynoed within the next few days.

Re: on going v8 nissan mods
wel yesterday it was on the dyno but someone gave as the wrong cam so we have to change it now haha but it made over 400nm and 1000rpm so the new cam is arriving tommorow morn and we will put it in over the weekend ready for the dyno runo again on monday.
and this is what happens when you hit 7000rpm with a rocker a little bit loose haha
