stretching 410 chassis

Postby chrome » Thu Jul 30, 2009 7:32 pm

does anyone see any benefits in lengthining a sj410 by a foot or so?? less wheel lift maybe im unsure which direction to head in on this project. at this stage all i have done is cut out the guards to fit 31s and whacked off the body behind the seats with the intention of chopping into a ute with a caged cab. lengthining may be better for carring the fuel tank and spare and some gear any thoughts?

The white one is a LWB we didnt get many LWB 410's and 413's except genuine truck cabs which there is a few of....not so many soft tops like the white one tho. If you've chopped it lengthing it is not a bad idea.....better fro climbing! but need to watch axle wrap, my 410 ute used to get a bita axle wrap and blow rear driveshaft UJ's

send us a PM keen to come look at your chop

Most of your axle wrap was caused because you took lots of leaves out of the spring packs to get it to flex , as there was alot less weight on the rear than before .( The leafs were set up to handle a big mound of fire wood etc on the massive tray it used to have )

I'm prety sure mro also found that when he put a spare tyre on the back of his truck the was not much space for anything else and when you did put other stuff on the rear (strops , spare parts, trials pegs etc ) you had to tie it down really well so you didnt loss it . Am i right james ?
This might give you a few things to think about when you make up your tray.

Cheers
Jamie

May have been rhino liner....

Yep I've only every heard of two LWB SJ413's soft tops in NZ (One was a Sierra Aussi Import) and its in Auckland, the other a Samurai Wide track. You see LWB SJ410's pop up on trademe every so often from time to time

In aussi/states a quite a few people add a bit onto the front of the chassis to put jeep/toyota rears up front (RUF) to get longer wheelbase and longer springs, more flex etc. But in terms of storage space you don't gain anything...

If your going longer though you may as well go wider too...

Coil the rear and just move the axle back. Moved mine back about 200mm form memory and with 33s the rear of the tyre is inline with the rear of the chassis. Coil the front and move the front forward about 75mm and get fire wall clearance for 33s with no body lift. (just have to do major virtual lift for flex) Just and option for you.

But as mentioned above the LWB chassis could be an option. Wheel base is about 250mm longer (I think :?: ) and there is chassis behind the rear spring hanger so axle could go back a bit more if you wanted.

I used rangi radius arms and lower rears with custom upper a arm. Springs :?: :?: :?: Depends on all sorts of things like ride height, flex wanted, use etc. I'm currently using r32 skyline rears in the rear and 94 prelude rears in the front. Lenghts are pretty good but could be a touch soft. Once I sort it to how I want I will prob go buy new springs inthe length and rate I want.

You could use anything for arms really just try and get the chassis mounts. I didnt and there is a heap of work in fabbing them.

Its most definatly a mongrel. Zuk chassis and tub, nissan silvia engine and auto, hilux trans and axles, 60 series power steer and lots of custom stuff in between.

There are a few pic in the (not very up to date build thread) http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=11955

Has had the front gaurds put back on it to meet club class winch challenge rules now. Looks really rough as its all different colours, will post new pics after paint.

410 flatdeck build project

Postby chrome » Sun Aug 02, 2009 6:05 pm

gonna turn this into a build thread, instead of havin spread around the other sections. like the thrash 410 thread. turoa put up a link to an outerlimits coil build and that answered heaps of questions for me. so im about to go on a parts mission and see whats out there. heres some clearer snaps of what i got done on friday night. gotta fill in the tops of the doors and weld up everything i chopped out and build the cage and flat deck area, next will be springs depending on parts and im also thinking of ripping out all the xtra wiring in the dash and engine bay. i also scored a race seat and a ali fuel tank and the old style race harness out of the demon monstertuck that used to be kiwi thunder so heres to recycling aye :D

that roll bar will end up getting sold so if anyone wants a cheap bar to weld or bolt in let me know

You gonna stick that commy motor in

Maybe for your beast (If its offroad only) just do a simple link setup instead of radius arms. It flexes heaps better that radius arms do, and an a frame for the rear or something. Im sure you took enough photos of shanes zook to know what im on about

Looking good btw

IM WORKING ON GETTING THAT MOTOR, just working out a price. ive been looking at all kinds of setups aye; theres a lot of choice out there i just not sure if i want this budget build to turn into something too costly   first things first get it caged and USE IT. then make some decisions. :D

na not yet, gonna try and weld up the doors tomorrow night and fit the old tailgate behind the seats. got the rest of the old tray off today so will give it all a clean up then figure out my cage and deck, i get my ali fuel tank tomorrow too. still on the hunt for some cheap standard springs. i know partworld has some but im still negotiating

i might copy these front guards they look mean and give some more room to move the front diff fowards to clear the wheels

thought i would rethink my rear hoop today. it looked poo and wasnt wide enough, i didn like it . so here is the new and improved cage, still unfinished and i dont think it will be done by the weekend but i am glad im not going to rush it and end up with a shitter that i hate. this gives more head room and is wider than the seats now, the other is still hiding on there im just using it to brace the other while i weld it :D
