Re: safaripetes zook
after having a chat to fakey last nite about a few things he had me abit worried about how the diff angle would change etc
but holy shit it looks like it mite just work if the angle changed i deffinatly couldnt see it
it even flexed up (no springs or shocks on yet) and ran outta travel on the lill floor jack im borrowing
will remake the stock surf spring pearches at work tomorrow an hopefully get them tacked in tomorrow night
will then look at shock mounts and the panard rod
more pics to follow

Re: safaripetes zook
little update
i cut the chassis to make the springs fit and have baxed that section up
its finally sitting on the wheels on its own weight
have got pics but cant upload them for some reason but will try later
going to move onto the front end over the weekend removing any unessesary crap that doesnt need to be there and making a start on some trailing arm mounts for the safari arms
oh and it wont be running the factory headlights now
hopefully i will have a full set of 35 mudstars by the end of next week
also brought 3 brand new 15x8 rims off landyrover as thats all he had left

Re: safaripetes zook
i got a question about the 'chassis boxing'...
does it get any tyre rub when one sides compressed and the other has fully dropped away?
could you have inboarded the coils and modified the poistion of the control arms?
what ya plan to do with the shock locations? lookin at prior pics, from bottom outer diff to bottom of chassis rail or something?

shouldnt have any rub with tha bigger offset rims but things only tacked in there atm so can change if needed
yeah i could've inboarded coils but couldnt be assed muckin with diff mounts lol
still undecided where shocks will mount but will more than likely be on top of tha diff as there will be an rhs crossmember going between the chassis "box" so will mount shocks to that

Re: safaripetes zook
to make it easier with the work involved with weldin the box part, ya could just get a 8" piece of 10mm wall thickness pipe from steel and tube at around the 5 or 6" diameter, so it fitted snug in the chassis and to encompass the round of the coil. be more aesthetically pleasing and also have no sharp edges for the tyres to catch on..
sorta like this... excuse the primo magnadoodle sketchyness!!

yeah i had though of that but where that "box" edge is i will be angling a bit of plate back to the chassis and capping it all off
just waiting till i get the body off the chassis and take it to work to do those sorts of jobs rather than trying to make bits at work then bringing them home to tack on with the arc welder
so it is far from the finished product atm

Re: safaripetes zook
Is that roughly the final location of the top links Pete? Give me ten minutes I'll find a link for you. How you have it set now you will end up with radical pinion movement.

Re: safaripetes zook
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthre ... calculator
On our Cruiser the top links are 1000mm eye to eye and the bottom are 1185mm e to e. The triangle they project forward converges at the top front side of the front wheel. Cycling it through 800mm (400mm either side of static ride height) of vertical travel the pinion angle doesnt change at all according to the magic angle finding doofrey
I like your idea of using the standard diff mounts. Wonder if they could be a warranty claim if they fail

Re: safaripetes zook
cheers man i cant work those bloody calculaters out
at this stage thats the final posi haha
the arms are the same length as nissan safari arms where the top links are on the chassis is basically where they ended up close to fitting lol ive had the diff moving up and down and tha pinion angle didnt change. well if it did i didnt see it.
still have tha panard rod to fit yet so the rear by far from finished but waiting to put some weight in the rear to sort that.
just waiting on some threads to be machined up to make a start on the front end

Re: safaripetes zook
managed to get some zook time yesterday and some ok weather
so brought home the plasma cutter from work and cut off all front end brackets
plus rebuilt the front knuckle so i can bolt some wheels on and line up things.
as we are looking at buying a house i need to get this at least sitting back on four wheels so more progress should happen
will get some pics up tonight

Re: safaripetes zook
pic of front mounts removed
engine mounts gone but need bigger grinder to clean up haha as tha 5" disc jus doesnt last
badnuz and fj40 came round and gave me a hand to position tha diff now i can make some spring pearches and radius arm mounts and hopefully get it sitting on its own weight
