Another couple days spent in the Custom Performance Racing shed/workshop. custom 4 link rear all tacked in place. Hope to have it welded and the boxing finished soon. Wheel base is now about 96.4". Really happy with the progress so far and a big thanks to Craig (who'll be on here soon) for his knowledge and skills so far.

I'm about to start my own build up, it will take a while but I try to just think about the smile I will have on my face when it's all done, that will make the effort worth my while. :D

small update.... craig got the rear diff 3/4 welded and then the gas ran out. picked up the cab part iv been trying to track down off a guy called john near hamilton, hes putting a td27 into his lwb which looks like a cool project.

so now i can start rebuilding the 'interior'. going to weld box off the chassis and under the seat box so that there is no chance of ripping through the thin aluminium and mount up the wrx seats. also start planning out the new rear tray in real life rather then scribbles on paper. hopefully get a couple days on it next week to try make some head way. :D

edit: anyone got some 1.5" stainless pipe taking up space? need some to run the rear mount radiator hoses.

also got a complete series 2a axel with a 4.7 ratio head for sale/donation towards my beer fridge

cheers

Starting to take shape now Andy, Craig is doing a great job.
Anyway must go see him about doing the exhaust flanges and re-routing the exhaust and tank lift.

Anyway it looks like it is going to be a great truck.

no pics till tomorrow... but rear diff is done, just need to bend up a shock hoop mount. Landrover front diff is out and ready for work to commence in the morning. Aiming for a shakedown run at the Norwest night run at woodhill in a few weeks (assuming we get some rain).

As much as its a case of destroying to create, it's lookin good thus far dude.

Have ya thought of puttin a hole or few in those captive spring plates to allow drainage etc? Might need to make them fully captive if ya outflex the coils too. Woohoo...!

cheers nibs. there are gaps but they just dont seem to show up in the pics. all the plates have had the corners cut to allow the mud/water to escape. im hoping that itll need relocating cones and limiting straps  but will only find that out properly when i get it flexed up.
Ill get that steering wheel off to you by the end of next week.

craig yeah easier to balance it up there and block off all the ports rather then disconnecting it fully.

haha the land rover that land rover should have made if i ever get it certed and on the road. :D

cheers guys i cant wait till its done. :D

Even something as whorey as a bolt bent in shape of a J to hold the spring down. I cut some retainer plates that work a treat.. Just as an idea, as even with limiting straps you dont want them falling out.

Nothing picture worthy unfortunately. :( iv been acquiring bits and fiddling around. planning to finish the front end shortly to get her rolling and look at mating the engine and gearbox.

Work and other commitments both on mine and craigs behalf have slowed progress.

I really want to get it 'finished' so i can get out and play because itll be summer again before we know it.

Have rear quarter chopped and built a new rear bar for the safari though.

 didn't scare me off but defiantly food for thought. figure i should get it rolling and the motor and box mated together before i save and splash out on a computer. As youll know the list of bits needed to get it done doesn't get shorter.

Soooo after hours on google looking for a write up on mating a cherokee engine to a cruiser box and finding nothing, i come to Bali for a holiday with the missus and within 12hrs iv met a maori guy whose been here for 20+ years and owns a mint fj40 and the next morning im at a local 4wd 'shop' where there are rovers with toyota motors, cruisers with cherokee motors and everything in between and god winches. Iv ordered a bellhousing thatll allow me to bolt my cherokee motor to the cruiser box and run a cherokee/wrangler clutch. :D So im pretty stoked i wont be faffing around trying to make another adaptor plate.

Will post pictures next week.

just a little update. iv still got this although some days it gets very close to being a $1 reserve auction.

Gearbox x-member has to be modified now to accommodate the driveshaft. Got to go to the clutch shop this week to try and find a clutch disc that will fit, landcruiser one is a little too big. :( started working on the seat mounts and worked out where the batteries are going to go and how im going to route the exhaust. The ARP flywheel and pressure plate bolts should be arriving next week and i picked up some aluminium offcuts so craig can do tabs on the radiator and fuel tank. Slow progress but some is better then none.

my planned date of being done by the 24hr comp definatley isnt going to happen.
