hey i might be jumping the gun a little bit starting this but anywho...
the victim is a 90 4runner with a v6 in it.
was brought for 400 with a suspected blown headgasket..due to oil in radiator..turned out to be cracked trans cooler.was bypassed into aftermarket cooler and the oldman drove it for a few thousand k's when he was made redundant...
v6 is going to be replaced by this:
and then while looking for a suitable diff for a sas came across a these for too cheap to pass up.so safari diffs it is
some parts i still need a RF gq caliper, and a rear disc.planning at this stage to use leone calipers on the rear for a handbrake(have a line on these in bosses old rally spear parts.) and also transfer selecter to go in auto surf transer
thats about were im up to now

had the day off work today and started haveing a play with the rear brakes..it appears the leone calipers are more suited to a smaller diameter disk as it leaves a section ontop of the pad not swept.
hard to see but theres a scribed line on it (about 5mm from top)
as i plan on keeping this road legal, would cert man be happy with this section ground away?or should i be looking for another caliper?has anyone added a handbrake onto a gq rear? I havent had any succseful searches yet but will look again.

From what Im looked into you need 100% contact with the pad.. so the 5mm is not really ideal and the cert man probably wont be happy either..

I've done a falcon caliper conversion on gq y60 rear diff if your in Rotorua come have a look.

the old motor has been sold. so removed that today..

You can buy disk brake hand brakes that go on the transfercase / drive shaft and they just bolt on. They would be the easiest option. Suzilla (think thats spelt wrong) on here sells them,

cheers,from what ive seen on lvvta, carden shaft is only certifyable if factory fitted to gearbox unfortunatly..otherwise it would be a easy option.

hmm..maybe I mis-understood said factsheet..will ask cert man next time I see him. Would be tight around the 4wd actuator but do able i think..

this one will be auto..As much as I like manuals,the cost diffrence is too big for me to be concerned about it. useing factory auto with transfer adapted onto back.
also on handbrake note,oldman brought me a "70 series" front rotor(I dont think it is,measurements are wrong...) but i think it can be made too work with the leone calipers..but may have to wait until the weekend.

Sorry havent got any pics yet, but the Narvara has a Wilwood calipar, which has had the hydraulic guts ripped out and had a screw type set up machined for it. Then theres a lever - cable - floor mounted handbrake lever.

The disk is simply 8mm M/S plate - which has been faced on the lathe - bolted between the driveshaft and transfere output.
The first set up was a Leone calipar and disk. Managed to get it to work but ditched it because it weighed a ton and was huge.

You can also use the Surf auto, with a few tricks if thats easier, exactly what i`ve done.

If you go with the leone calipers its tight but you can get full pad contact with a toyota rotor, I'm using 70 series cruiser front vented rotors on the back of both of my trucks, you can see in the first pic the pad just making full contact. The handbrakes can work really well, both of mine use the subaru handbrake cables and join onto the cruiser handbrake cable with an equaliser T bar, it gives the cables a good strong inline pull and clamps the calipers up tight. Theres heaps of different options for rear calipers and handbrakes, I ended up buying a pile of leone calipers from pick-a-part for 13 bucks each so I've done both trucks in them and have a pile of spare calipers sitting under the bench

seeing as Im too much of a tight arse to buy bodylift blocks, I decided to make my own. special adition to plasma cutter
means a can turn steel plate into cheese
didnt get pics of next parts, but cut lengths of 50x3mm tube and faced off on lathe to length. welded plate on from the inside and turned down to tube diameter..external weld on the other end and almost sorted.just gota drill holes now and paint.
now the bolts,anyone confirm i need 2x 140 m10 2x 150m10 2x165 m10
before i pull it apart.

2x 130mm, 4x 150 and 4x 170. You have to use 8.8 bolts and nylocs if you want it certed you probably already know this tho

anyway progress has been slow...but bodylift is in tempararly.
total cost for body lift $20 for the bolts.had everything else...
going to sit engine box in and get sitting where it needs to sit.then will more than likely remove the entire body to make mounts and swap diffs over...
on another note saw this best at a certifiers the other day

progress has been slow but lower engine mounts have pretty much been made just need finalweld once i know it all fits
using (i think) 70 series shackle bushes.
Then a set of these followed me home

engine has found a new home almost,just hanging until mounts are finalised
and didnt have rotors or one caliper for rear axle,so this somehow found its way home...
now I neeed to stop spending for a while...
anyone want buy a safari 4.1 lsd complete(minus rotors and one caliper) rear diff? has surface rust,but otherwise appears to be in good cond.

small update have made engine mounts,so no longer hanging on chains.shouldnt have any issues with these breaking.will be intresting to see what vibration is like.will use simmilar for gear box too.
then a had a drive in a 2wd manual hilux with a 1uz and was dissapointed with the performance of it.. I then aquired these
two tdo4 standard wrx turbos.
will rotate the exhaust hosing and they should fit about here on each side..
also unbolted everything off the ifs that I can.
