Filthy Safari
Filthy Safari
Well I suppose its time to finally start some kind of a build thread...
Now I got sick of not having a decent truck to use, so I sold the 2 trucks I had and ended up getting converted to the dark side
Now being a dumbass, I forgot to take pics of the progress so far
So the story goes like this:
I bought Datsunsafari's old GQ, which had overheating issues and an auto trans...
So we pulled the motor and trans and put a replacement motor and manual conversion in its place.
Have slowly been chipping away at things with datsunsafari's help (cheers dude), and we finally got it started in the weekend
Have a few issues to sort through now... Dodgy wiring somewhere as it seems like the starter motor is only getting 12v as it cranks very slow then gathers speed up (have tried 2 diff starters with same result).
I dont have a multimeter to test it but will get round to it asap.
Its all pretty standard for now, once its up and running I will be itching to get out and give it a couple of shake downs
Plans are:
Bigger Mud Tyres
Led Light bars
Bar work
Lift
Winch
Will update with pics when I can...
Cheers
Caleb

Re: Filthy Safari
sounds like the cable going across the from the drivers batt to the passengers batt is earthed out? Or one of the batteries is poked.
Should only get 24v otherwise.
Good to see you've seen the light

Yes and no, have been trying to hunt down a banjo, draglink and fan.
Bought a full set of body mount bolts, high tensile washers and nylock nuts for it, splashed out HEAPS for them
Have fitted a couple, just need some more of the rubber spacers for the underside of the mounts.

2020 is when I predict my bro's Lada to be done/rusted into the ground. Mine as well maybe 2017 is a better time frame.

Avatar is from when I was last paid up and had a smurf
Have bolted the body down, pulled the started back out again and pulled it semi apart (shes not the prettiest inside ) am on the hunt for a new starter, hopefully going to hire a mig this weekend and attack the exhaust
The banjo bolt was a little bit loose but i replaced the copper washers and retightened on the alternator, just need to figure out a solution to the fan issue now...

Re: Filthy Safari
hell some progress im impressed i'll pop up with the other starter motor might be able to make one good one out of the two,as for the fan why dont you just get a factory one and forget about electric,12v no good for 24v truck
Re: Filthy Safari
Well since I havnt updated in a while...
I have now finished the motor and gearbox conversion, tested it out, broken it and fixed it again
I took it out to woodhill with datsunsafari and jimnyjeep for its shake down run which it loved (apart from a busted wing mirror, popped P/S hose and some lovely panel beating).
Took it up the beach for another run last week and it didnt miss a beat, ran like a dream and went bloody well in the sand
I have finally fitted my light bar to the roof (undecided if this will be temporary or not)
I have also splashed out and got a decent PRS radio so I had to install that today to fill in some time...
