30" tyres , hey these are big when you start with 27's , close second low range t/case gears . Third is a long way off and not even sure what it would be .

cant remember how but the other day I came back accross this old thread from a few years back

My 40 series cruiser came pre-built with with lots of shit already done to it but I've added a bit to it in the couple of years I've had it, probably some stuff thats not often on the top of a lot of peoples list but I've found them pretty important

Clutch, often a bit neglected and not really thought about, even though it hadnt done much work on a rebuild the 12" chev clutch couldnt clamp up tight enough and would spin up with hard work so I stuck a centreforce clutch in with centrefugal counterweights on the diaphram and a dual friction clutch plate... it bites real good :D

Longfield superset 30 spline axles and CV's, I farking hate swapping out smashed up CV's and can give these arseholes with the front diff lock in and nothings ever broken

18" viscous fan with steel blades and a shroud to get as much air flow and cooling as I can

Unless a person is doing some technical 4 wheeling like rock crawling I think dual boxes are a waste of time.

I have been out with many with dual boxes and most are always in the wrong gear because the choice is too great and they get out performed by ones running a 5 speed box. Jafa is an exception.

That is only my personal view and I know others will differ

I would rate decent tyres 1st
Diff locks 2nd

Cheers Richard

Changing the exhaust from standard to 2.5", really made a huge difference in performance.

I agree with Richard on this, lower ranges in the gears are useless if you are a mud bunny or for most club truck duties. I haven't changed my view from when I commented on page 1 of this thread. Take care of the traction, the strength of the weaker components and the abilty to get it all to the ground.

Going from 1 factory diff-lock (rear), to having a 2nd one, an unlocker. My Prado really responded to the Lock-Right up front.

One day I will get it to droop more as well.

Next best mod was porting the new cylinder head, which gave me a lot more torque. 100 to 145 km/h now 1km instead of 1.6km.

Oh, I guess the 32" Simex's help on occasions too.

rear bar work
was smashing the ass end every trip, so I started treading more lightly in certain situations.
then once the rear bar was on, didnt even think twice about dropping hard into holes and leaning against banks
