Went the same way myself. By the time you have spent good coin buying a decent tow wagon and tandom trailor i bought a transporter as well. Actually it was a flat bed tipper but i pulled the tray off and replaced it with a beaver tail transport tray.
Now to get my toy going so i can use it.....
Ah thats a differant story all together

Hay hay calm down there fella.
Its the system now as you can only hold for a max of 1 year. Then 1 letter from them and then the next is saying you owe them money if you want to continue keeping it on hold
How come you cannot buy rego with no warrant but if the vehicle comes off "hold" they can charge you rego when it still unwarranted!!
The system is where the problem is :!: :?:

Heck! When did that happen? My Sunbeam and triumph have been on hold for 7 and 4 years respectively
How hard can it be?

I would advise to double check if they are still on hold.
ive had two different landcruisers in the last 4 to 5 yrs that have been placed on hold and after a year missed the rehold letter from them and then got a second letter for a years worth of diesel rego before I could rehold them.
on the current one I have let it go now but still had to pay before I could kill the plates..
beestards is all I could use at the time

stick them onto farm reg (B class exempt) then hold them I've got a few plates that had been on hold for around 10 years with no probs, B exempt isn't continuous reg like std registration so there aren't aren't any unexpected bills arriving in the post :D

can only do B class if its warranted first and the system is starting to get quite toey about B class as well
I tried doing the B class on my bj74 with sb350 and the system would not accept it until in had a wof but when I explained it had a blown motor I just got the blank death look and got hold to take it up with nzta.

It's easy as to keep something on hold/exempted, you stick it on hold for anywhere between 3 months and a year and when your yearly reminder letter turns up, you jump onto LTSA website and can exempt/hold it for another year in round 1 minute.
I've had a ke30 Corolla on hold for 10 years this way.
I do know they can be difficult if you forget that important letter though....

I've had lots of different cars on hold, its easy to put it back on hold through the NZTA site:
https://transact.nzta.govt.nz/transacti ... entry.aspx

Then sign up to carjam.co.nz and you can tick a box on each of the vehicles under your name so it emails you as soon as the reg is due. If you still haven't done it a week later you get another email per vehicle.

Pretty handy.

How instant is instant? Are the batteries really flat or does it have a loose terminal on the batteries or starter? 12 or 24 volts?
I expect you wanted answers not more questions; )

I use either a DA or a strip-ez disc on a grinder for removing paint.
