Made a start on rear, spare wheel will sit on that frame then 350 mm above that will be the deck.

Ignore the big box sitting above wheels

A bit of progress.

Hoop over top isn't perfectly even but that's what you get using a cheap $200 bender.
Hopefully not too close to body, will find out one day, if it rubs might have to solid mount 2 rear body mounts.

About out of steel so will have to order some more.

Finally a bit more time

20170415_155726.jpg

20170415_154409.jpg

A 10.5 wide spare will go forward about 50 mm further forward.

That dog box used to fit in back of surf when it was a wagon, comes apart/clips together.
Will put holes in deck so the legs on box can go through so it can sit flat on deck like that, usually a 230 mm space underneath.
Good for safaris too. Will get a canvas top to go over a frame one day.

Stays to make up next, on the side of crate.

What a machine! not much of a surf under the body now is it, how much better does it go with supercharger?

not standard  , but plenty of 130 surf. but yeah quite a bit of prado too, or custom. :D

not sure yet, only time I've driven it with the sc fitted I drove 45 mins home from town without the piggy back computer wired in, couldn't accelerate too much cos the ecu got confused with boost instead of vacuum and put into limp mode.

but if you look on 'you tube' at the americans super charged 5vzfe tacomas that might give you an idea of what I'm hoping for. 8)

Brackets to fix sliders to chassis.

20170617_152210.jpg

Start of sliders, bolts will be other way around, just don't want to melt nylons welding.
Hopefully bolt heads won't get caught on rocks or anything.
The box running front to back will be part of the complete exo so when/if lifted off it won't just be attached to the main hoop in one place. I'll put a bar from slider to below where hoop sits on deck behind rear door.
big blue box will be open end (have something in to stop it filling with mud) so can have a box slid in held by large pin (like a tow bar) in case a winch/whatever point is needed on the side low down, pulling straight off chassis.
that short piece of blue box will be welded sideways into smaller box and have tabs to bolt on like other two.

In place, some diagonals to go in to strengthen it up.
Can start building up off it now.
Hopefully clears body when/if lifted up as part of the exo.

Bit more, 2 bars along guard to join up to front bar next.

20170706_143716.jpg

20170706_143733.jpg

End of box behind rear door be cut on angle and capped.

Was planning on adding a bar between doors but had to be out so far to clear doors when open that it just looked ridiculous, and would also get caught on things, so will make do without it.

Rear door still hit it when fully open, and front door only missed by about 5 mm.

I had thought about that bar aswell, I haven't really required it on mine yet.....ps should be sweet with clearance, looks like plenty there. The bpillar bar on mine was real tight, aprox 5-10mm in places and well let's just say the there's some nice curved clearencing been done.... about 15mm would be about right id say
modified surf, hardly drive it seem to keep modifying it....

Hard to see in photos but it stuck out a lot further than the other bars along side, figured it would get caught up on things and probably just cause more problems. So I cut it up and used else where.

Why not make it removable , fit it tight and block the back doors a bit for hardcore tracks and take it out for around town ?

hadn't thought of that  . good thinking.
sounds like a plan, just have to figure out mounting at top and bottom. if rear door doesn't open when B pillar bar in place then there could be a horizontal bar across rear door that slides into that 2" box end behind rear door handle. would then need a removable plug in that 2" box when B bar not in place. just thinking out loud.

I've always wanted to put a removable horizontal bar across each door that hinges open with door, just below handle height, for leaning against banks/trees etc. had given up on that idea with no B pillar bar, but now its making me think again.....

One thing that could be good for an idea is to just have a bit of 25 - 50mm RHS bolted directly to the door at the height most likely to get smashed, like a super heavy duty rubbing strip, I've seen it done in stainless with the bolts recessed in & it looked really good. Would probably want to add some extra support behind it at the ends to get max strength.

That would help. Door isn't flat though, would have to shape it to fit.
Was hoping to keep it all flush along side, will do what UBZ suggested, and was picturing the front door bar hinged off exo in front of door and latching/contacting the vertical B pillar bar. So all flush along side.
But if I don't get to that will look at something attached to the doors.

Spare wheel cover also acts as a step for getting onto deck.

Still got to plate side for strength and put chains on to hold it level.

Cheers bro.

Got a whole weekend spent on rest of bar work and lifted it off. Got a heap of welding to do now.

Photos will have to be one at a time, for some reason all photos in one post show same.
