Nice truck, very nice. Coil'd SAS'd 1UZFE'd Simex'd single cab. Wicked.
How did you mod the Prado auto to fit the motor and the computer? I thought the input shaft and pump needed to be changed. Are there enough speed sensors to feed the Lexus ecu?
Is the auto/manual controller available anywhere?
Are the clutch packs in the Prado strong enough to handle the increased power of the 1UZ?
My Surf is currently manual and I am thinking about converting it to auto.
Matt.

The A343 out of the V6 surfs and Prados is the best trans Toyota make based on the strength to weight ratio. The only stronger ones are the big arse cruiser ones.
i'll let madaz answer the other q's as I still haven't got the auto running yet ....

Hi there Mattman, I didnt do any mods to the prado auto at all and so far it seems to be running ok, but in saying that problems may arise once it starts getting the shit thrashed out of it, if anything happens its not to hard to swap the guts out of a lexus auto into it, but I dont think it will need it.
I used the 3 litre prado auto because the torque figures of the 1kz motor are pretty much the same as a standard 1uz so it should be able to take it.
I am only using the speed sensor thats in the speedo cluster.
The control for the auto is a switch on the dash-up auto, down manual
There are a lot of winch challenge trucks running these autos in various forms ie, prado, surf, lexus hybrid some with quite a bit of power and I dont think theres too many problems.
As for why a auto, got sick of clutches and release bearings full of mud, also hope it will take a bit of bite out of the engine and make life a bit easier on the rest of the drive train especially cvs.
And lastly with every thing else going on in a competion its just one less thing to worry about ie stalling or what gear your in ect...

I just ordered 4.8 ring and pinions from the US. $319 USD brand new (front and rear), plus another $36 postage (surface 4-6 weeks)
Front is the same as a cruiser
Rear is the same as a 4 cyl hilux.
I can get more
Ordered mine from these guys:

Other options:

Dont get me wrong- theres nothing wrong with cruza diffs, big strong and cheap and no matter where you are you can always find them and most of the time it will be the right gear ratio(4.1)
Also im trying to stay away from one off or imported parts simply because of the delays replacing stuff when it breaks.
Cheers
