THE BIG CHOP PART 5

Postby Rangerat » Mon May 12, 2003 3:50 pm

It's been slow progress over the last couple of weeks, due to outside factors but I finally got out to the shed this weekend.
To finish off the c-pillar I bent up some alloy to match the steel sub frame and to provide a mounting face for the quarter windows. This capping (for want of a better name) will be tigged to the rear panel when the roof join is done.

A frame for the rear window was folded up out off panel steel cut, welded and riveted in place.
The frame for the deck was finished except for the backboard. I haven't decided on a final design for this. (plus it would get in the way of the c-pillar welding)
The deck frame was cleaned down, primed and painted before being fitted back on.
Before the deck frame was fitted the fuel tank was bolted in and plumbed up.

A new bracket was made for the rear brake line and bolted to the fuel tank skid plate.
While the deck frame was off I plated the ends of the chassis rails.
To fill the hole in the back of the cab were the fuel tank sits I folded up an alloy panel to fit.
Mounting holes for the rear lights and number plate were drilled in the deck channel.

(I was going to use LED lights but at the cost of these I can break a few lens covers and still come out on top!)
It's now getting to the stage were there seems to be one hundred and one things left to do and my list seems to get longer.
Bear with me if it seems like a long wait between reports as a few hours work only takes one line to tell and I'll do a few jobs then let you know.
I am getting real keen to try this thing out but haven't yet got to the stage of sitting in it and going vroom vroom!
Luckily I have two 4X4's so I can still get out and play.
Till next time

As always - thanks for this weeks installment - great work. Too professional really to go on the Bodge site... oh well.

In fact very tidy sheet work - the C pillar looks great. Good to see the tray starting to take shape - love the two planks of wood  [Maybe it can go on the Bodge site!]

Looking forward to the next installment...

cheers
