It has to stay.

To start with... I have no idea what is involved in running a forum but am willing to help in anyway I can.

Heres my 2c.........
I think location should be compolsory when you register.
I also reakon that new members should have a probation period in which they can post in a seperate noob section till they get the keyboard hero shit out of their system (or simply leave) but can only read the main section until they prove they are worthy to be part of our community.

ORE is a brillant forum and an infinite source of knowledge. But yeah, theres got to be heaps of crap and the people who can help aren't really interested in doing so. But if you dont waste their time with mindless drivel, they might start contributing again. At the end of the day theres those who think they know what they are talking about and then theres those who have done it before and do know what they're talking about.
Respect is not quantified by post count.

Please keep this site running, just drop the trolls and drop kicks.

I know a google search is hard for those who have bad English but there's no time like now to learn.

For those that can spell, don't take the piss if someone's genuine about learning but can't spell. If you can't be bothered helping or doing something positive, go away.

I vote keep it and clean it. Another forum I belong to has limited sections that you can post in until you have done 200 posts and includes a compulsory intro and location

keep it, but lay down some more serious ground rules for noobies.

pirate.com are dead serious on their noobie rules and it works well.

and is there any way you can change that certain pages dont show up when you click on "view active topics"
ie: "view active topics" should only show tech sections, and if you want to view off topic shite then you have to physically click on that page???

Keep it going mike.

I'm not a big poster (is that right??) and not hung up on the number of.

I have met many great people on here, look forward to meeting more, have received good advice and look forward to learning more. I have given advice, but do so knowing it to be correct or of some benefit.

I don't care what anybody drives. As long as your having fun.

Don't know the answer but the bullshit has definitely become deeper than a standard snorkel.

Best of luck, Phil.

Also i would like to put my hand up to help moderate, familiar with websites and forums, used to run my own for a short while

Cheers

Yes need to keep ORE going.
Yes I sell a bit of stuff but only making a bit of pocket money to help pay for the hobby, and helping the toyota guys get access to parts out of the States without the high shipping cost.

Have learn't heaps off here which is much appreciated.
Good idea to have a newbies area to learn a bit of keyboard eticate if it was feasible to do.
Not sure how you would assess when they are ready, perhaps need to become a supporter to have general posting rights.

Other than in the off topic areas I think people need to ask themselves a simple question before they post. " Is my post going to add value to the particular thread I am posting it ?? ".

Agree with the comment regarding spellling, need to remember that not everyone is an English Professor, yes sometimes I cringe and think to myself what is this world comming to, but then think is there any point in commenting on the spelling as it won't help the discussion.

Could be a starter as a Moderator but not sure what is involved in this.

And just to say again need to keep ORE going as it is an important 4x4 New Zealand resource.

Thanks for your efforts Mike in starting this and having the passion to keep it going.

Cheers
Tim

The archive is too valuable to greenhorns to lose it. We'd be forced to limit our searches to Australian sites!

Keep it.

The problem lies with a lack of active moderation. I would suggest ih8mud.com as great example of a 4x4 forum that works well because it has many proactive moderators - posts in the wrong place get moved, post shit wildly off topic and it gets removed and you're told to pull your head in.

Also, a more minor issue - there are way to many sub forums here, it's no wonder people don't post in the right place. Say I have an issue with my diesel cruiser, do I post in the Toyota section, diesel section, tool shed?

Keep up the good work, this is new Zealand's foremost online 4x4 community, and with some TLC it can run smoothly.

Mike i love this site i visit it daily i used this site to help with my wedding, to which im grateful. Allot of people come out of the woodwork that i didn't even know, nor did they know me and they helped. I respect that. As of late i have been watching more than posting because there is allot of dribble that people can answer with a couple simple clicks of the mouse.
With out this site and a couple others i.e pirate, and picking a few noses for information like Marty, njv6, Rock, Richard and a couple others, i wouldn't have got the knowledge or known were to look for info on how to build my truck. Trough this site i have seen a few truck turn into weapons with the simple help of others.
When i first found this site while googleing HOW TO DO SHIT. There used to be days where you and others would go out for the day and educate newbies as well as guide them. I have not seen anything like that for a while. Maybe we all need to get to know someone before we all judges them by there keyboard antics.
Recently the CHCH fwd club done a open day where they opened up to everyone to come and see what they all about... i have not heard one single bad word about the day. What is wrong with some of the more senior (not as old) members on here doing open days to edimicate some of the other members on here in the field rather than on a keyboard.

In short if you close this wealth of knowledge another will open in its place and in tenn years time it will be answering the same questions....

Keep. I only just got here but this has helped me heaps.
I am a snr moderator on evoxforums, these issues always arise with the few don't let them ruin it for the rest of us.
- more active moderation
- 3 day, 2 weeks and forever bans should be enforced
- add a report post button
- create an faq series of threads where newbies can go straight to or can be sent links of
- get more mods, delegation is the way to go.

If you limit the drivvel that the trolls post, I'll promise to only spit abuse at the old folks who really deserve it. I once too relied on those elders for their wealth of knowledge. But i've spent so much time here I know everything now.
