I vote to keep it, but...

more moderators to keep on top of the trash.

When you join ORE (or any other forum for that matter) you agree to their rules.
Why should someone have to spend time dealing with a select few who ruin it for the majority?
If you can't abide by the rules you get kicked out...one warning then you're gone for 2 years (or forever).

I vote keep it.

I've been here for ages. Posting has dropped off for me as I am more of a lurker than poster at present (Seem to cycle through active to lurking every few years). I try to post where I can to help or inform. I'll put my hand up for some stupid questions and responded to baiting where I should've just walked away as well.

I log on every day (sometimes several times) to follow whats going on and agree that there may have to be some rules about 3 strikes or similar and am willing to do some moderating if needed.

I wasnt aware of another forum but I share my time with several sites (hotrod and V8, 4wd, prado online, etc). My interests are varied but I try not to preach (Okay I used to about the use of the bombing range - but not for a while  ).

I would hate to see the massive amount of resources we have in the members of this forum (their views, talent and alternative way of looking at problems - not to mention their businesses) dissappearing to a private forum. When you started this forum Mike all those years ago I believe it was to spread knowledge and experiences (both tech and trips - and spawned an online 4wd club too ) and I hope that it will continue.

Regards,

Heath

Keep it but allow for more cleaning.

If someone starts a thread in certain places (like tech and other importants stuff) give them the ability to either stop reply posts or delete delete reply posts. That way the thread owner can direct where the thread goes, keep it on topic, remove unwanted advice etc.

If someone asks an open question, then the sad side effect of the internet is the drawn out often misinformed replys, people just need to sort the bullS&^t from the gold.

(Oh I have no idea about running a forum, and the hassle it would be to get it to do the above, so feel free to tell me to go to computer school  ) Also quite happy to help out as a mod, i deal with conflict for a job.

Some good points here.
My vote clean and keep!
While I'm at it, world peace would be good too
Search function is in a state of disrepair or just doesn't function like it used to.
I would put my hand up to moderate but i consider myself a noob too and my spare time is spent selling crayons at club meetings

I'll put my vote in for keep'n it going

There are a few like me that might not be as active as we can.... there is a certain point where ya just get sick of telling people the "simple stuff"
I'm too tired (from work lol) to be bothered reading all the threads I only bother to read the stuff from certain posters who I respect or if the title sounds like it could be interesting.... I didn't realise there was another muppet problem

This problem seems to pop up every couple of yrs
My half drunk (not much else to do in wellytown after work and it is good to have a drink after a hard day in the sun) any way my suggestions
Send a warning email to all members with conditions of conduct and conceqences (or how ever its spelt)
Appoint a hatchet man to inforce a code of conduct... I'll do this for a start, I don't mind being unpopular
Sweet talk some of the more tech savy into running a tech Q&A for the Nube's.... find a mug to waste alot of time to put these into a FAQ similar to what Pirate has for the toy section.... bugger I spose that should be me  I do have a vage memory of saying I'd do something along these lines ages ago
Hmmm as for the guys to run this  I know some clever buggers on another board who would be good candidates
As far as keeping the crap out limit replys to only those running it, and for those stupid twats that can't be bothered reading the FAQ give us the ability to reply with a click of a mouse a preset reply along the lines of "You lazy pathetic twat go read the FAQ" or a slightly more pc version of

Hmmm enough drunken ideas, time for a shower and some tea.... and possibly another bourbon

Cheers

I vote keep site, clean site and more mods.
Maybe also have option under reporting spam that says something like report users post for being offensive, bullying, personal digs etc

A warning or points system for people not sticking to the rules of site and send a pm to them.
Cant start a topic until posted certain amount of times first.
Definitely a newbies area on ways to operate different things on site, how to search.
Compulsory location at signup.

Just a thought, this forum is can be read in most areas without logging in, perhaps this maybe needs to change.

I myself spend approximately 5 hours total on this site each day and is pretty much the only reason I go on the net. It would be a shame to lose it. I'll put my hand up to help in anyway I can.

keep it mike, after reading this thread I just used the Search function and it brought up any info with the parameters I put in.

Also my understanding of php is average and i understand that allowing search bots like google bing ask meta yahoo wiki etc can consume bandwidth but they have there advantages.

letting them into say an area specifically used for storing how too's tips and tricks will allow you to link the search function directly to a search engine such as google and will still get the same hits as a user would internally on the php board.

Have noticed on my time that I've never seen a moderator lock a thread.
Maybe more moderators too help keep things fluid.

I think the answer to this question was always a forgone conclusion, admittedly there is a lot of shite being posted, but I think you need to take a leaf out of Pirate4x4's book, and install a n00b post forum, no flaming acceptable from anyone to anybody about anything posted, with the exception of mods....

I vote to keep it. I have met some wonderful friends and had some Awesome trips including bringing Michelle aka pickles on a second date. How about anyone can read most of the threads but you pay a small subscription per year. This will keep those away who only join to ask a few questions and then never reappear. . If you charged say 25 to join including first year then a lesser amount the longer you are a member. This will assist with site maintenance and make it easier to scrap those annoying people. Keep up the good work Mike and reece
