Disco 1 Front recovery eyes

Postby 3VILC » Thu Aug 09, 2018 7:39 pm

So with the lack of easy places to mount anything on the front of a Disco 1 and the price of aftermarket options, I was thinking I'd just knock something similar up myself. Some 60x12 flat bar with a shackle hole in the end bolted to the 2 holes that hold the bumper on same as all the aftermarket stuff seems to be, I was thinking of adding another length to tie it backwards to the Jate ring bolt hole also for good measure to reduce the twisting action on the top 2 bolts. Anyone see anything wrong with this idea?

This is what you want:

We've run this set up on all our Disco's, works well. They come drilled at 7/16" but we bore them out to 1/2". Max a Canterbury Land Rover Spares sells them pretty cheap ($30-40ish a side from memory), but I'm sure you could knock something the same design pretty easily. You have to run them on the inside of the chassis rail because of the panhard mount being on the outside. You'll just have to get a longer bolt, from memory it's already 1/2"

I remember asking about yours before. I remembered the shape of them but for some reason I thought yours were eyes not hooks bolted on. That's what gave me the idea of using the rear holes for extra strength compared to the store brought plates that use the bumper mounts only. I'll see how we go I intend using both sides with an equaliser strap anyway to spread the load onto both sides. That panhard mount is a pain I'd just use a pair of jate rings if you could use both sides.
Wish I hadnt sold all my gears with last truck forgot how expensive all the straps etc add up quick haha. Still got a couple of hooks left for the rear tho

Yea the panhard mount is a bit of a pain, but it can be easily worked around. I had toyed with the idea of doing shackle holes rather than hooks on the last one and I wish I had. The equaliser strap would be great, I've been meaning to get one made up for a while now haha. And yes, it sure adds up!

Bloke said $35 plus shipping. Gave him my credit card deets and he's gonna send me one.
Doesn't seem to have shown up on my card yet so hopefully he does  will let ya know what the go is once it turns up. Def worth yt to me vs. Spending the time sourcing steel and making my own. Time is much more valuable than money at the moment!
I'm hoping to keep my stock preface lift bumper valance and will run it on the left hand side.

Cheers for the tip on where to source!
