Broken Transfer Box on Mt Greenland

Almost to the top and bent the rear trailing arm climbing the last rock step. Collateral damage the whole engine/gearbox got shoved forward - broken mounts and fan disintegrated on front crossmember after chopping a power steering hose but radiator OK. No drive at rear - thought it was a diff pinion, but removed rear driveshaft and drove out in FWD. Turns out the rear output shaft has sheared.

So if anyone has a spare Landrover LT230 transfer Box lying around - I'm after parts....

Blue mudstone section was driveable for some but most needed a winch or snatch. Bog was driveable if you got the line right. Even the rock step where the break happened was driveable but easier in a LWB. It was a pretty dry day

Ahh bugger that's a lot of carnage... if I was nearby I'd offer to help with the repairs. Mind if I ask what axles your running in that beast?

Safari axles - cos I had a set and heard horror stories about how weak the Landrover diffs were. Surprisingly easy to fit - but I do have a mate with an engineering business. LSD front and ARB rear diffs. 4.1 ratio diffs are perfect with 35in tyres too. I expected the diff pinion or UJ to break with the extreme driveshaft angle but I guess the LR output shaft was the weakest point...

Driving South on SH6 into Ross, at the dog leg you go straight on past the pub (instead of right) and keep going..... if memory serves correctly, been 8 years since I went through there.

You could certainly make a start, but unlikely to get past the "Blue mudstone" section which is VERY slippery and quite rutted, so requires pretty good articulation and/or lockers and/or winch with good tyres. Also be careful of washouts on the sides of the track. I'd strongly suggest 2 trucks so you have help on hand and don't get too ambitious. Even turning around can be difficult...

You also need to have absolutely no compassion for your vehicles paint work, the gorse is pretty full on.

Gorse is a bit better since sinda went through a month or so back and did some pruning and dug some water cut outs. Big thumbs up to them.
Still "west coast scratchy" track though.

I had to reverse round one zig and two zags to be able to turn round, many moons ago in my prado, pre mods... 31's no lockers etc
