Insanely priced One-Ten on TradeMe

Postby lax2wlg » Fri Nov 25, 2016 6:21 pm

Get a load of this clown, trying to screw some poor hardworking guy out of $37,000 for a parts-bin One-Ten High Capacity Pick Up, advertised as a Defender and with Disco running gear.

Yeah its straight and clean but 37k? Turn it up

It is a defender.....just depends on the year it was made....it was either a 110 or after 83???.... was badged a defender.

Either way technically he's correct in calling it a defender as it is a 85 so defender by default.

Ye number only denotes the wheel base.

Heaps of these rotting away on farms around the country . we pushed 6 into a hole with a digger 15 odd years ago when the old man brought the neighbouring farm.

Yea na. Defenders didn't exist before 1990 so this is a Land Rover 110. Seems to be a common mistake sellers make as to maybe make their oldies worth a bit more!!

they were called a 110 to differentiate between the new coil sprung model and the older Series 3 109 .
The wheel base is still 109"

Very tidy , but well expensive
Would be interested to see the engine bay and some under body photos

Yes and yes to the above two posts. No such thing as a 1985 Defender.

This is a Land Rover One-Ten HCPU. DB can confirm if you need any more proof.

And its an automatic, which makes me want to throw up. Wonder what motor she started life with.

So basically somebody has bought an old wrecked Disco for a couple of grand, dropped the engine and box into the One-Ten, maybe the front axle, and now is asking $37k. Thats f*cking robbery, the guy should be shot, hung and quartered.

The grille is not period-correct either. Thats a Stage One V8 grille. Neither are the alloys.

not askin for proof, just stating as far as any farmer is concerned when ya brought a land rover for the farm it came with two doors a deck a 100 inch wheel base and called every curse word under the sun when it wouldnt start on a cold morning...

it's still the same damned truck and the name was only changed as to not cause confusion...which ironically...caused more confusion.

Brother the Defender nameplate was released with the 200tdi engine and quite a few other changes (door handles the most obvious). It was quite a significant release for LR.

There was never a 100" Land Rover, only the Range Rover and later the Discovery which shared the same chassis.

And they ALWAYS start on a cold morning!! Bloody Good little engine that 2.25 petrol - extremely reliable, runs on dirt, good torque at low rpms. Once we expelled close to 2 litres of Waiau river water out of thing, bit a WD40, reinstall the spark plugs, put New oil in it, keep going. Throw in the 2.7:1 transfer case and you realize they knew what they were doing....

BTW The reason I have a problem with the whole Defender vs NInety vs One Ten thing is that it is actually unethical and bad business. Sellers can claim ignorance etc but the bottom line is that its false and misleading. When you think defender you should think TDi and R380, that engine/gearbox combo was a massive milestone and should immediately command a considerably higher price.

The other interesting one on TM at the moment is that ICON lookalike replica thing, factory 3.5, decent paint job, bling wheels, I think he's asking 23,000 ish.

Otherwise that white Range Rover would be a wise investment at 4000. Restore it to surgical clean condition, polish the shit out of it, ideally put the original engine back in it for matching numbers, drive it once a week, keep it garaged, wait a few years, sell it for 30,000.
