Discovery/Rangie bits

Postby mike » Wed Sep 29, 2004 9:46 pm

Hi,

I just bought a disco chassis off trademe and need:

    1. left rear stabiliser arm, one front axil(either rangie or disco and if rangie need to match the ratios I guess)

    2. power steering setup

    3. rear locker suggestions for a disco axil

    4. Generally any thoughts or suggestions before I start putting this chassis under my series 3 body

Get some chassis strengthening plates from Jules at twooffroad and weld them on while the chassis is bare - they stop the front bending after heavy landings...
then rustproof it and enlarge/improve the drainage holes for washing mud out.
add strengthening to front rails for tow points.

On the locker side, go for a maxidrive or mcnamara locker and axles combo - the standard axles won't last with a locker, and it's cheaper it get both locker and axles at once.

Strengthening the chassis sounds like a good plan. I can make the plates up myself quite easily, just need to know where to put them

Thanks for the other suggestions, I think I will be adding them in 8)

I can probably help with some of those bits - I have a stripped front axle housing from an 86 5-door RR, which I think should fit that - but not totally sure. I also have a few rear axle bits too, including discs and calipers with damn-near brand new pads in em. I also have the self-leveling rear shock and a-arm parts.

I can probably get the rear trailing arms as well if you need them.

I'm doing some work for a company called County4WD who are specialising in dismantling later model british stuff - I'm getting some nice coily bits from them :)

Hi Steve,

I'm pretty sure the front axils are all the same as the chassis is the same, hell all these discos and rangies are just series LRs but with electric mirrors and cigarette lighters

I'm definitly after a left trailing arm(I would imagine they arnt sided), an front axil of sorts, rear axile is complete.

Ok if I give you a call on the weekend to discuss?

By all means - give me a shout on 021 637 600 or 03 314 7227. I'll look into the trailing arms today if I get a chance.

Hey Rex - I have a cellphone number. Mark, 0274 317 259. Tell him I gave you the number, and use it sparingly as I think they only do trade sales normally - its not a retail outfit. Mark also does a few rangie and landy parts from his place tho so he should be able to help.

regards

Steve
