Diesel tuner

Postby bacon 1 » Sun Oct 15, 2017 7:58 pm

Hi does any know of a good Diesel tuner in Whangarei?
I have a 93 KZJ78 Landcrusier and I am only getting 12-14lt per 100Km which I don't think is that great. It seems to rev a lot and not much go.
Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like a maintenance or repair issue rather than a tuner issue.
whats been done to fix this?

Engine and transmission have been serviced. Not sure if injector pump needs adjusting/tuning.
Haven't tried anything yet as I'm hoping to get some idea if it's a trans issue or engine before I go spending money at the wrong place.

Yeah I'm thinking of getting the injectors done.
If there is anyone in Whangarei that has a KZJ78 cruiser with a standard 1kzte that I can compare the two vehicles would be great.

The garage in Onerahi, behind Hammer Hardware, are pretty clued up on 4x4 and shouldn't rip you off. Diesel Dave at Maungatapere maybe able to help but he's more a nissan man. Last options would be the ARB shop on Porowini or there's a few diesel places on Gumdigger Pl whose names escape me.

Replacing Injectors is pretty much DIY and for that I can recommend Rod Walford (021) 1633821. He's in Rodney, but will send you a recon-set on an exchange basis.

Thanks for that MihiT I'll look at replacing the injectors and see how that goes.

depends also on the general setup.
12 - 14 l/100km is quite normal for me.
I have 33" tyres and run 4.88 diff ratio. automatic gear box.
only on highways cruising 100km/h I come down to 11,5
on 31" with 4,33 diff ratio I did 10,5 - 12,0

it´s a big car, I wonder who get´s more out of it?

According to my plate under the bonnet my diff ratio is 4.33 and I'm running 31x10.5x15s.
So looking at your guy's posts it's not to bad. I will still look at replacing the injectors over Christmas and see how that goes as I would think that they wouldn't have been replaced.

injectors usually send some signs when they want replacement. rough idle and run, some smoke maybe.
if there´s none of it why change. they cost some serious money if oem

fuel economy turns bad before any of those things happen. also the ecu tends to adjust for the injectors so you don't rough idle etc until its really bad.
1kz injectors are fairly cheap to reco.

Kaiapoi repowers in south island has a set of exchange ones for $400.
