Hi All
Recently my 91 Prado has started making noises from the front end when doing over 50 km/h, the problem is intermittant and seems to stop when I put the hubs in 4x4.
Any ideas as I would like to get it sorted instead of having to drive around with the hubs in all of the time.
Cheers guys!

Re: Front end making noises
If it is only occurring when you change your hubs around, I would suggest you pull your hubs off, wash them out, air dry them and re-grease them to ensure they are engaging/disengaging properly.

I would think if the electric hub is making noise then it will stop working soon. found one of mine had water in it still working but not for much longer. Jack it and see if you can hear it by spinning the wheels. helps to know where it is coming from.

Re: Front end making noises
Are you sure both hubs are disengaging? If only one disengages, then the drag in the gearbox may be greater than the drag through the spider gears, so rather than spin the driveshaft, the diff will turn the free one backwards at the same speed the other is turning forwards. It makes quite a whine! I found out when I had only unlocked one hub....
