Hi there, I am interested in buying a factory diff locker from a HZJ79 Prado. It has ratio 4.3. Will this be the correct ratio for me and my LJ71 Prado. My Prado has Trans code R150f.
Thanks for any help any1 can give me.
Diff ratio for 1991 Toyota Landcruiser Prado swb
Re: Diff ratio for 1991 Toyota Landcruiser Prado swb
you will have 4.88 diffs in your LJ71, you may be able to swop over the crownwheel and pinion between the diffs. if you buy it make sure you get the switch and the solenoid thingy.
70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)

Hi,
If you are talking about this model
I believe (could be wrong) that they have a 9" diff. The LJ71 Prado's have a 8" diff so dont think it will fit
Re: Diff ratio for 1991 Toyota Landcruiser Prado swb
Front diff looks like an 8" High pinion which will fit

Some of the newer cruisers have an 8" front diff...
4.88's are a better ratio, ie the lower the ratio ie 4.3 the more work the motor does to turn the wheels, and its not advisable mixing ratios....

Jerry you need to find a job and go back to work.
If the guy has a factory LJ71, then you should first ask if he has biggers tyres and if there are any other mods before you go telling him he should change ratios for no reason at all.
Normally most folk change ratios when they put bigger tyres on, so unless this guy has gone to Lada tyres, then changing to 4.3 from 4.8 is not going to help.
also, if that particular auction is the one hes looking at, then theres no bloody way he will be changing the crown wheel over considering its faaarked and has teeth missing.
rant over
hope this ranting has been of assistance to the zimzo chap

The LJ71 he has is the same year as my old one and should be running 4.88 diffs, also running 33" tahs which he is getting is the right size for the 2.8 in it. If you read my post i was suggesting he leave them at 4.88
There is another non damaged diff the guy is selling....

OK, that's enough thread jacking. I really do not want to get into 'moderator mode' again. I have better things to do. But while Mike is away for the next 2 weeks I'm going to request that all of you simply don't respond to any of this. It IS possible to ignore posts... you just turn your brain on and use it to think "we've already been down this track... oh look there's a pretty picture in the Random Image block <click>".
