for the amount it would cost to put a 1kz motor in wouldn't you be able to do the south island trip.?

your 5.29 trail creeper diffs is probably your biggest killer as you'd be doing quite high revs even on 36's and churning through the gas at 100km/h

x2 the commy would cost a shitload less on gas to do a round trip than it would cost to shove one of those head cracking engines in your lux :D

x4 seems a little backwards logic to put a $2000+ engine swap instead of paying some extra coins for gas for a road trip, unless its like thirsty beyond belief but i couldn't imagine a commy being all that bad surely not 2k difference in a gas bill for a road trip round the south island.

Just my thoughts tho

g52 box wont bolt up to the 1kz motors only the r series so budget on at least another 500 for a surf gearbox to go behind the motor

Yea mate, say you do 2000ks.
The 1kz mite do 500ks a tank and the comy 400ks, that's only 1 extra tank of gas, taking into account difference in price your only saving a couple hundy $$$.

You sure its worth the hassle?

buy a cheap starlet or barina runabout and leave the lux at home in the driveway for weekend playtime you must be ripping those 36" simexes to pieces running around on the road all the time :D

There is something with the comy 6s that makes them drink gas if its not wired right, for the life of me can't think what its called

Thats the vss vehicle speed sensor your thinking of it runs a default rich fuel map when it doesn't know how fast your going. Depends on how tuned your memcal is.

So Ashohman just beat me to it (how nice of ORE to let me know before I post and look like a retard). Marks adaptors sell a VSS that plugs into the toy t-case and can give the needed ECU input. About $300 from memory, but I never bothered.

I used to get 5 or 6 km's per litre (4wd and open road, usually not to much urban). That was with an exo and 35 simex.

Have you tried cruising at 90 kph? (I didn't) your drag coefficient drops about 20% by dropping that 10 kph. Might be worth while on a big road trip.

Also make sure your o2 sensors are working properly too no exhaust leaks before sensor otherwise it will richen up the fuel also.
