LN107 diff ratio ?

Postby catalystracing » Tue Dec 27, 2016 3:50 pm

Trying to find diff ratio for my lux, nothing on ID plate other than G/box G52
1996 LN107 DC IFS

Is there an ID stamp on the diff housing I could look for ?

Cheers Paul.

got a photo of plate on firewall?

or if open diff jack 1 rear wheel up, turn it 10 times and count how many times drive shaft turns, divide by 10 then double it. if locked or lsd then jack up both wheels and turn together but don't double it.

you can turn wheel once but if a 4.3 diff then 10 times around is 21.5 turns of ds, 1 turn would be 2.15 of ds, not so easy to distinguish between 2.15 for a 4.3 and say 2.05 for a 4.1 or 2.25 for a 4.5 diff.

I think there are some models that didn't get the diff code stamped on the plate and I've a funny feeling NZ and Jap new may have been assembled with different ratios, the codes are all over the net but no use to you if you don't know what code you have, only certain way is to pull a diff out and have a look or drill an inspection hole to count the teeth :D

I think the G52 refers to your diff. The G means it is the 8" diff common to hiluxs, the 52 means it is a 3.72 ratio I believe.

they put G52 gearbox in hilux.

and it would need G52 then another number for the pinion & open/lsd, 2, 3, 4 or 5, to be diff.

going by what I can find july 96 was the change from 4.3 to 4.5. but you will still need to check it by one way or another, imports probably are different to nz new.

very close but the diff code should be 4 digits, would be a pain in the arse if the diff code could be the same as the gearbox code :D

X=crownwheel diameter ie G=8"
XX= ratio code 01-41
X= centre type ie 2 spider, 4 spider, LSD etc

Thanks for the input, It is a G52 box. I had to replace the cluster 2 years ago. It has stamped on the plate that it was assembled in the CH CH plant ( NZ assembled )

It has a lockrite so will jack up and do the counting thing.
Was hoping it would be 4.8 as I might be able to get a LSD for the front.

again thanks.
