Rear Upper Control Arms, 90# Prado

Postby oldblue » Fri Mar 10, 2017 10:41 am

Need to replace either the bush's or the complete control arm assy on the rear of a 90# Prado. Very costly $$$ Are the bush's easy to push out and replace with a kit set of bush's ?. OR is there a place that sells arms at a good price ?.

If they're anything like an 80 series rear arm you'll need about a 20T press & a properly sized punch to get them out. Easy with the right tools.

If it breaks, build it stronger.
If it doesn't break, drive it harder.

Some sort of press is essential, Easiest way I found was using a pre-used bush to push it out, have tried big sockets and almost everything else :-) The cost of paying someone to do this almost justifies buying your own press.

I have some new Toyota bushes that I'm trying to offload, do you know the Toyota Part numbers?

Yep, I built myself a press & it's been way more useful than I thought. Cheaper to just buy one unless you have some suitable steel lying around though. You see them for ~$300 on special sometimes. I also made up some properly sized punches on my wee lathe that make the job hugely easier.

80 series rear upper arm bushes are pn# 48702-60031 lower ones are 48702-60040 according to an online parts fiche I found - If it's these you have I might be interested in a set for spares if they're cheap enough.
