Think thats all.
Took it out yesterday for its first run.
Extremely happy with how it preformed. Still needs a WOF and Reg. But other than that the plan is just to drive it at the moment.
The only part on it thats leaking is the oil catch can and the exhaust where it attaches to the manifold. But thats easy to fix.
Do I need to worry about the catch can leaking?

I'm happy with how it runs at the moment but am interested in a 3 liter swap somewhere in the future.
Is there any 1kz 3l swap on here into Ln106s? I've looked but haven't been able to find any, maybe i didn't look in the right place or something.......

So a little update.
Thought id take the exhaust off today to get a new gasket for it.
But as it turns out there's more than just a leak.

Looking up at the turbo it looks like this.....


New exhaust time. But that's okay because I needed to make it longer to get it legal.
Anyone got any tips for making an exhaust?
Just going to make it out of 2.5in mild steel.

man it must be loud! what happened, for a whole section to be missing?

So a little bit of an update...
Ever since i brought it, its had a starting issue. A mate came round today to help me on it with his mate that owns a slick 1kz LN65 HiLux on 35s. All three of us were poking our heads around under the bonnet testing volts and everything. For some reason there is draw on the battery even when everything is turned off. When the engine is turned over the volts on the starter drop right down to 5, which is waaay too low. They are still a little bit baffled by it but told me to take the starter off and they will see if they can borrow one to try just to see if it is the starter.v

I also have a glow plug problem..... will be buying a full new set of those at some point to.

Make sure that voltage drop is actually the starter - check the cable, solenoid, earth lead etc. Any of those things can be a bit bit dodgy, won't drop any volts at no/low amps but will steal your ergs when the load comes on. Good luck!

I sorted my LN106 cold start issues with a new earth at the battery, all seemed right but one day I got even more sick of it not starting when cold so started to replace everything. New battery terminal sorted it.

So this is a fairly long explanation but I'll try and do my best to make it make sense.

As you all know I've got a starting problem, so my mate from work had come round a few weeks ago and lent me his battery charger to see if charging it for 24 hours might help with the voltage drop because I hadn't been driving it much so we thought that might help. But it didn't.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and he came round with his mate as I explained. So I took the starter off for him and his old man to test but as it turned out, everything seemed ok.

Fast forward to now, I took the ute down to a shed him and his mate are renting so we could sort it out. I had to roll start it to get into the place because it would've been too hard to tow into there. She started with a bit of a struggle but eventually got chugging. I let it sit for a bit then turned it off to hear what my mate was saying and it turned out he was saying "don't turn it off."
So we roll started it again then drove it into the workshop.
It then proceeded to start twice off the key off of his battery, because we discovered that my battery was stuffed. It was fine then and ran until we turned it off.

But he wanted to see the voltage drop from cold. So we went back down there this arvo after work and tried to start it with his battery but all it did was wind over, but didn't start.... Not good. So we troubled a round a bit, and took the starter back off (yes again) to go and get it tested.

So on my list of to do things (to get it going) is as follows.....
1) New battery, going for a Century 730 cca. Was 660 cca that was in there before.
2) Needs new glow plugs
3) Get the starter tested to see if I need a new one or not. If not I'll have to look into the electricals.

*sigh

These 3L hilux motors simply will not start cold without glow plugs so I would have said they were the cheapest and easiest things to replace.....

Had similar issues with my 3L, have sold it now but do have some new Bosch glows that I never got around to fitting if you want.

On Friday after work I cleaned up my catch can.
Look a millions times better now. I also replaced the gaskets with some fresh gasket goo and redid the sealant tape.
I unfortunately didnt get any pictures of it before, but this is what it looks like now.

On Thursday last week I put it in and my mate manually glowed the plugs and she started first pop. Super happy about it . Hopefully with the new plugs and timer itll be all right.

Shes all running an sweet now. Hopefully taking it out on Saturday,but see what happens.

My mate very kindly tidied up my weld on the chassis near on the crack and pleated it up all nicely. Will get a pick of it sometime.
