1995 escudo h20a valve cover leak

Postby MikeM » Wed Mar 04, 2015 8:50 am

Hey guys so quick question ive been just about pulling my hair out trying to figure out whats gone wrong and have come to the conclusion that one of the half moons at the back of the valve cover has popped out and keeps dripping oil onto the exhaust now my problem is that i have no idea where to get a new one, i called Supercheap and they said it should have it already glued onto the gasket but in their pictures the gasket i need does t have one at all but the other side gasket does. Im so confused as to whats what. Any help is much appreciated. Another thing, ive ordered what supercheap said was the left hand side gasket which im hoping is the one on the passenger side bank as thats the side of the leak.

Initially I replace mine with aftermarket ones but the RH bank has always leaked. I tried to goo it up once but it still leaked so I have purchased the originals from Suzuki. From memory they were $70 per side and in stock.

Is that for the half moon on its own or the whole gasket? And am i right if i say i ordered the left hand side gasket for the passenger side bank?

Um, talk to the sale person and they should be able to advise you the correct part for that bank.

My engine is the 2.5 and the half moon is on the drivers side. The passenger side rocker cover gasket on mine doesnt have a half moon on it.

These are the part numbers I have:

Drivers side rocker cover gasket, 11176-85FAO
Passenger side rocker cover gasket, 11186-85FAO
Spark plug hole O-rings, 11179-81402

I would recommend doing both if you can afford it as a lot of stuff has to come off to get to them!

It's mechanically simple but there's just a lot of gear that needs to come off and some of it is tricky to get too.

The major thing that needs to come off is the plenum chamber. From memory the injectors stay with that assembly and you can leave the throttle body on the plenum as well. It is tight against the firewall but will come off.

One part you have to do blind is the EGR pipe connection to the plenum. Follow the pipe up from the drivers side exhaust manifold and undo the 2 M6 bolts that connect it to the EGR valve.

All the wiring on top of the plenum and the passenger side spark plugs stays with the vehicle where as the drivers side plug assembly and the injectors should unplug and come out with the plenum. I did do this a long time ago so my memory is a little sketchy...

I think a mechanic will charge around $400 + parts to do this job if your not keen.

Sounds alright i havent done any valve cover gaskets but i got a good idea from reading all over the net of what is involved. Although its making me wish it was a 4 cylinder motor instead haha

Lol, yeah. No extra displacement, no extra power, no extra torque but lots more complexity. On the up side they do sound better than a four...

Ok so i got my gasket today and after inspecting it i noticed it doesnt have the "half moon plug" with it which is what i need. It was the left side that i needed and is the right gasket but this half moon thing is really annoying me and i cant figure out i fthe left side even has a half moon on it or what it is thats missing but i know for sure that the oils coming out of a hakf moon shaped hole.

My apologies, there is one down the back of the passengers side rocker cover beside the angle sensor. It looks like it's a separate part as i can see sealant on both sides of it. You might be able to use the existing one again?
