Leaking CV joint

Postby Mas Mac » Sun Mar 15, 2015 10:50 am

G'Day,
My 1993 Samurai has been very trouble-free so far, but yesterday I noticed one of the CV joints is leaking oil. Its a slow leak - just seepage really (see pic). Just wondering: Is this important and if so, what can I do about it?

Probably due for a front hub overhaul, kits aren't too expensive: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/parts-other-makes/diffs-axles/auction-856498545.htm but it can be a pretty dirty job so you need lots of rags. Only special tool needed is a deep 50mm socket for the spindle nuts.

those online auto parts kits out of Oz are good value they come with good quality Japanese koyo bearings you have to watch some of the cheep kits listed on tardme they come with Chinese bearings that are so well finished and machined you have to watch you don't cut your fingers on the jaggered edges :D

I just brought an one of the ones from online auto parts, the cheaper one at about 122 +post, doesn't advertise jap bearings like the more expensive one but they are indeed all jap bearings. Ordered Thursday night in my rural mailbox Mon morning.
