Hey all,
I'm after a 4.636 ratio, factory rear diff lock axle for my 1995 Pajero v6 3.5L swb auto... (the compressor/ecu/wiring/switch too if that's available)
Does anyone have one they'd like to sell?
Cheers ))

Re: PAJERO FACTORY LOCKER 4.636
I do still have the 9.5" diff with factory locker. Its 4.9 ratio but your crown wheel and pinion should fit it. It also has an air leak. Don't have any compressors or ECU's left. The lockers have different length drive shafts too. One side you can reduce your existing one as the splines are long enough, but for the other you will need to source the correct shaft, or reduce the axle case 12mm!
May the force be with you.

hi thanks for the reply
a few Questions
would you know if there seal kits to fix air leak?
regarding sourcing the correct shart? is there and other 4wd that this part may be compatible? is reduce the axle case possible? has anyone done this?
i guess if i found a shaft it may be still compete with locker etc...
these crown wheel and pinion 4.9 ratio and my 4.636 ratio has any one done this before?
sorry for the 101 questions lol
do you have price in mind?

Re: PAJERO FACTORY LOCKER 4.636
Its probably the diaphragm leaking and one will be available from mitsi. I altered both ends of an axle case to get a wider axle by using 2 long half shafts from a standard axle. Never finished the project though as I ended up needing a rear axle with the diff offset to one side. Hence the reason I have the diff for sale. Unless you are good with the engineering and a welder I would suggest you contact mitsi and get a price for a diaphragm, and just for a laugh find out how much they want for the halfshaft. Then call Howatt engineering and see how much they want to make you one. I guess then you will know if its worth the bother. I want $250 for the diff head. There are a few lockers about for the 9" diffs but ones for the 9.5" diffs are pretty scarce. Howatt can convert your current LSD into a locker too but wont be any cheaper than an ARB locker.

Any chance i could have a look at this im in rangi thanks
Re: PAJERO FACTORY LOCKER 4.636
I'll have a look in the shed of parts, I think I threw it out but I would have had a good diaphram from one of these lockers, I shore all the teeth off the locking mechanism one rough day, they are a weak spot if abused.

Re: PAJERO FACTORY LOCKER 4.636
Thanks Andy for Al your information on these factory .
i manage to find a complete 2.8 nz model pajero truck with factory locker has big diff etc.
My question is it has a 4.9 ratio in my 2.8 which is better than my 4.636 in my v6 3.5 and right now I'm running 33inch tires...
my goal is to put 35inch tires on I'm wondering if I need to find a 5.29 ratio and see if this can fit to bring gearing back? It is a 3.5 v6 auto

You cannot get 5.29 for the big diff, 4.9 is as low as you can go.

Thanks for the fast reply.
I guess the 4.9 ratio must be at bit of a workout on 35inch wheels 4wd?

Re: PAJERO FACTORY LOCKER 4.636
I swapped to 4.9 ratio from 4.636 when I went to 33's, can't comment on 35's but mine is a manual and I'm pretty careful when winching, wheel speed in low 1 is still a bit quick, same when doing a bit of rock work or river work when getting close to the alps, the boulders are pretty big! I can only imagine 35's be worse but for someone who is just playing in mud they'd be fine!
My reason for swap was same as you, I got a factory locker in 4.9, I also wanted to get some of the on road performance back that the 33's robbed me of.

Re: PAJERO FACTORY LOCKER 4.636
Was it a easy conversion when you put factory locker in?
I hear some bypass some wires so they can engage locker and stay in until switch is activated
Even in two wheel drive? Is this true have you done this?
Have you thought of locking up the front?

Re: PAJERO FACTORY LOCKER 4.636
I wouldn't recommend anything bigger than genuine 33" tyres. I say genuine because some 35's are nearer 33. Power wise with the 3.5 auto you will be fine, and the rear axle you have is plenty strong enough, but the front axles and cv's will be at their limit. Also you have the biggest / strongest cv's now with the 3.5 so you don't have many options to upgrade. In fact I'm not aware of any, unless you want to put a Safari front axle under it!
May the force be with you.

Fitting the diff was easy, I just rolled the whole assembly under, quicker than trying to lift diff head in, I couldn't physically lift the rear paj diff into the housing without using a jack. Wiring in my vehicle was all thee, just had to plug the switch, pump and ecu in. Some vehicles don't have all the wiring Loom but parts of it.
Yes I have a front and rear lockers, just used all the factory stuff, didn't need 2wd diff lock... Front diff lock more effective in my opinion from playing around on banks etc on the farm. I run 16 inch 33's which measure about 33.2 new.
Andy is right, you have the best cv's, and they are dam strong.
