body lift 91 safari SWB

Postby 42south » Thu Dec 22, 2011 8:40 am

Hi Guys
I would like to get some extra lift on my 91 Safari SWB. Its standard at the moment but is taking some body hits on one particularly rough track I use to my favourite fishing stream.
I am thinking larger rims would give me an inch?
Is is possible to get a kit for a one inch body lift, my current shocks are rated for a one inch lift, rancho 9000's. So I am thinking only new springs would be required?
As you can see I only want a small lift, nothing serious.
Any advice appreciated.

Hi mate,

You will only be lifting the body above the chassis with your body lift so if you want to also do suspension lift then yes you will need new sprinds, your 9000s should take a 1-2 inch suspension lift easy

Yes I agree with the above. I,m hoping that with larger rims/tyres,(any suggestions on suitability?) and a small body lift my problems should be gone.
I dont want to do any more than 25mm lift as I have read too many posts of problems with higher lifts.
So do I need anything other than springs for a 25mm lift?

Whack in a set of spring spacers

Then upsize your tyres - should be able to fit 33in tyres if you trim the flares a little...

As long as the right shocks are actually in there.......

Also, you need to factor in the $400 or so for the LVC

LVC not required for spring lift

So if improved articulation is not a concern - just ground clearance, then lifting the springs with spacers, using existing shocks (assuming they have enough travel), then fitting larger diameter tyres would be the cheapest & easiest option. Alternatively - with a little guard modification (disc grinder), just fit bigger tyres....

Guys
I might be confused here, I didnt realise that body lift and spring lift were two different things.
I am thinking that the spring spacers mentioned in a previous post sound like the answer, followed up by larger tyres when the current ones are finished.
What does a body lift involve?

Meant for the BL as it sounded like both were being done...

Thanks guys, I'll get the spacers as mentioned and see how we go. Then larger rims and tyres in due course.
Are there any issues with spacers regarding suspension travel, or driveability that I should be aware of?
The rancho shocks are rated for a 25mm spacer, so I am hoping that the 30mm spacer that 4WD bits sell will still be okay, any thoughts?
