I was talking to the chief speedo winderer from the early 2000's for a major car yard in christchurch years ago. He said the best way was to wind it right forward and right round again that way the numbers say lined up. He said as soon as you wind it backwards the numbers are out of alignment. Reckons he was doing everycar coming through the lot  He took one look at my surf and said it had been done, which I confirmed when I took the dash apart to put in the CB and PRS and found some connectors not rejoined

the drill is conneted from under car end of speedo cable or do you take dash apart it would be hard on your drill hand hanging onto the drill for hours is there away to place in a frames or holder for the drill and leave it to UNWIND

I have to wonder about this. if you are going to wind a modern speedo forward to end up with it showing 50k less using an electric drill, that's 950k you have to wind it forward. if the speedo sits on 200kmh, it would take 4750 hours to do, roughly 6 months. winding the speedo cable in reverse won't work. try reversing and see if the speedo works, it might on a electronic speedo but not a mechanical one.

Mines a 1990, i took the dash unit out, unscrewed the speedo unit out, with a screw driver, i opened the mount on the back that holds avset of white gears that stop the numbers from being moved externally. Once that is moved , the numbers will jz roll freely, so adjusted it to the value i desire, then placed the white gears back and stashed it back, if you are careful you can do a good job, and it works fine.

Peace

Piggy, did you take it off the wall and out of the frame to copy it? Or was it a spare print you had laying about just for this purpose?

Minimum effort method. Pull the plastic cover off the front, insert a fine blade to the right of the digit you wish to change, carefully twist it slightly to disengage the pins between the numbers, roll over to your desired value and re-assemble.

That, plus how do you explain it when you go to sell and someone does a VIR look up on it?

So what's the gain?

why the phuk is this even being discussed? its illegal, end of story.

Oh hell, what the heck, shall we discuss the fastest method of bypassing security systems too, or how about where the best chop shops are in the country.

maybe the fact that terrano speedos crap out all the times, and the amount of times ive had to replace mine, ring up land transport, get them to send out a new ticket, and while i wait drive a vehicle that is out of road users?

if i could have wound the speedo back, it would have been alot easier, and would have saved alot of time.

the other thing is, if its illegal to wind back the speedo, is it illegal to buy a speedo with far less k's and install it instead?

Remember its all entered into the system when OCF or WOF is done, big red flashing lights appear when numbers dont match, As for Terrano speedos always failing, my one did 450,000 kms without an issue, mind you I didn't play with it either

enough cunt7s wind their K's back, the system doesnt work for passenger cars, change the system.

I remember getting fried over my thread of putting a switch into a GQ Safari dash yet all you terrano buggers are encouraging it....
