Terrano upgrade

Postby kiwipete » Fri Dec 21, 2012 6:22 pm

If I was to think about upgrading from my trusty 2.7TD Terrano (95 model) to a 97 - 99? model (that's the Regulus 3.2 Diesel); is there anything I should look out for or be wary of in this range of years?
Looking at Trademe, there seems to be a lot of variation in the models in this year range.

Only thinking of this as we may look at a bigger caravan in the near future and my current steed won't hack the pace.

It will not be used for any serious off roading, just shingle roads and a little riverbed access for fishing.
Insert Gentleman off roading here. 8)
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

make sure you don't use a qd32 as the flywheel will not bolt on.
The qd32 will bolt into the d21 and will make a great upgrade
your turbo exhaust manifold bolts up and so your good to go there

Don't. The D21 is heaps better.
Front shocks (Mcpherson struts) always shit themselves, rear trailing arm bushes need to be replaced with eurethane (the stock ones are too voided and crap out all the time) rear shocks too (lower bushes...bonded).
If all those are done you may end up with a nice little town car....

second that, the FIL's is always having issues at WOF time with suspension bushes.

And dont get the one with a sunroof, leaks like a siv, and also the electrics have issues.
