D21 transfer box

Postby sublimenz » Sun May 04, 2014 8:17 pm

Hi would the auto and manual transfer box be the same or is the gearing different? I need to replace the one in my manual and have a good one out of an old v6 auto.

KBJJ has done exactly this mod on his Navara. The V6 auto has a bigger chain with similar dimensions to the Safari TX12 chain. Same reduction 2.02:1. Sweet mod. So feeding it a TD27 you'll never break a transfer chain even if you stand on both the go pedal and the stop pedal at the same time. IIRC minor mods to get it to work.

Check his thread 'D21 SAS with falcon rear leaves'

The bigger R30A manual gearbox came with this upgraded transfer chain as standard.

I am assuming you are running the normal FS5W71C gearbox.

The auto transfer case has a bigger input spline. You can dismantle both and swap input splines
If you break it... build it stronger.
