Z20 timing

Postby Rex Calibvr » Wed Nov 04, 2015 7:22 am

Hi.
I have just rebuilt a 1987 z20 & would like to know what the exact timing should be.
In Google i find everything from 5deg to 12deg

Does anyone have a Haynes manual for correct info.

Us Federal and non-us cab/chassis models 12º BTDC @600rpm
Non-us (except cab/chassis models) 5º BTDC @650rpm

The thing I dont get is that arent they all cab/chassis models....?

Out of a 1987 nissan navara. 4 spark plug.
I'm picking it's non us model as they didn't have navara. I'm sure the 720 pickup is different but i could be wrong.

OK thanks. Looks like I'll just have to test it between 5- 12 deg.
I've disconnected the egr, & will run 95' so i presume it'll run best around the 8.

Any actual answer appreciated, as I'm confused over the us chassie one.
But still helpful thanks

And by the way, at 5deg it didn't seem to run as well. So I'll work my way to 12. & see what sounds and feels optimal

Runs best at 12deg, everywhere else was rather flat on power.
I have also found another z20s that i can access to see what that is running.
I'll post any results once i have worked it all out.
