Well im at final stages of getting my buggy going.
Im using a y60 front diff complete with radius arms etc.
Lucky enough i found a sprite diff that has the stronger tie rod ends
I have already gusset the hub balls
And added support to the longside from the diff head to the radius arm mount
Ive heard that the std panhard has the same structual integraty as warm spaggetti.
What about the tie rod?
Budgets well blown so i want to strenghten what i have if i can first.
So ive heard of welding steel angle to the rod.
Do you do full lenght of rod? 75% or 50% lenght of rod and centered etc.
What size angle? and how thick?
Keen to hear your answers.
Cheers

Mate I've never owned a y60 but have a decent amount to do with they're front ends handson mechanically. Tierod, draglink are known frontend weaknesses. Rear panhard and trailing links in the stern.
Bugger sleeving it or adding more iron weight, maybe Talk to Bombaybasher on here, in Auckland, if you can provide dimensions, he machine tie rods and pan hard rods made from 4140 25mm solid bar. So about 20x stronger than factory. If you get 5 more sets made you should bd able to work out something that makes it very affordable but rewarding for all parties. Ie Bombaybasher, you, and the 4 other guys that buy the kit too.
Both the tierod and the rear panhard are known weaknesses on that platform. Both are easy fixes. Satin Black CRC Zinc, WOF man very impressed, tick, etc.

Re: Y60 front end
The late model tie rods & sprite ones are fairly strong. I was using one at Possum palace comp the other week & hit a log hard which peeled back my beadlock ring but only slightly bent the tierod.
I thought tube was structurally stronger than solid bar?

Cheers guys.
My wagons only a bushy so wof aint no issue.
Rather use whats there at the moment. Just want to add preventive maintanance rather than trying to sort out a arm once its bent.
Thats why i would like to hear about either heavy wall tubing slipped over the top of existing tube or steel angle and what sizes were used.
Cheers

Roll cage tube, inside diameter of 36.3mm fits perfectly over the heavy wall nissan tie rods.

No. For a bar and a tube of the same outside diameter, solid bar is stronger.
But for a bar and tube the same mass, tube can be much stronger (tube will be a bigger diameter).
