Hi Guys
My 24v Safari's altenator is getting a bit tried, so want to replace it. Was speaking with an car sparky and he guesstimate it to be in $1000 ish bracket, which is a bit rich to my taste, so started to research the subject, and find a wide range of Amp ratings, now I would like to ask the question who runs what amp rating altenators? And any brands better than others? Also maybe someone could educate me how to work out what Amp rating to choose. All help appreciated.

Re: Amp rating of a Safari's altenator
Most the GQs run a 35amp altinator, it will have it on it. Years ago I replaced it with a 70amp upgraded one and always kept a reconditioned one spare on trips. But now they have a 100 amp one http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... 1372899305
Definetly one of there weaker points, have you sealed the gaps in the front left guard to minimise water mud blasting the altinator?

$1000 to swap out an alternator ,? I would look for a new sparky first ,quite honestly its approx. 30 min job ,a 50amp would be more than enough for most trucks and they can be bought for under 400 .if your in auck you buy the alternator and ill show you how to swap it .
Re: Amp rating of a Safari's altenator
Agree $1000 is silly money. More amps is good, personally if I replaced it I'd just max out, 120A, this will help anything you ever want to run in future (winch, fridge, very large sound system etc) with the benefit of being under-stressed and running cooler if you're not loading it up.
