Safari King Pin Bearing Seal?

Postby driftinglobo » Fri Oct 20, 2017 10:31 pm

Hi

I have started to overhaul my swivel hubs, due to a axle seal leak.
Took my king pins out and there is a seal / cap under the bearing on the CV side. Have removed one so I can get the bearing race out, but it got a bit unhappy with my removal procedure.
Is there a way (beside luck and patience), to remove these with out damage? Or they just has to be replaced with the bearing?
What would be they purpose?
According MR Google they to keep water out of king pin bearing, but for that they on the wrong side? They more to keep water out of the CV? Or am I missing something again?
Has anybody left them out? As they a costly item, and my surf didnt had them. and seem to be ok without it.

As always all inputs are appreciated
Regards

Last time I priced one through Nissan they were about $50.00 each.....I KID YOU NOT!
They generally punch out but do get out of shape in the process.

Do you mean the 42x65x10 oil seal?
They're about $3 from any engineering shop.
