Where to buy Nissan PTO Winches second-hand?

Hi,

Writing from Australia here. Hello my Kiwi neighbours!

I am trying to find details of any wreckers yards in NZ that have complete or partial Nissan GQ Patrol/Safari PTO winch assemblies (incl gearbox and levers etc) for sale for a reasonable price. I want to import a number of them over to Australia for myself and a few mates.

Also, if anyone has a spare PTO gearbox I am interested as well since I may just go Hydraulic.

Sorry to dissapoint but he following phrases come to mind:
Hens teeth
Needle in a hay stack

They are reasonably rare on the imports, snapped up from the wreckers, and not usually taken off by people who have them already on their vehicles.

How does a PTO differ from a regular winch?Is a PTO gruntier more reliable?Where are the control levers mounted on a Patrol with a PTO?What do they cost after market (approx)?

Oh oh, I know this one.

PTO stands for power take off. Just like that extra drive shaft that sticks out the back of your tractor. And very much like a tractor (i.e your nissan) The power operating your winch is that 4.2 diesel(sometimes turboed) engine. There is a little gearbox that sticks off the side of your gearbox (transfer case for us toyota lovers) we call it the PTO. That has a lever that comes up somewhere beside your main gear lever and your transfer case lever.

Great thing about PTO winches is that once you have upgraded the shear pin so it doesn't snap every time you use it, these winches will pull all day as long as your engine is running. Unlike an electric winch that slows down to a crawl when under load, all you have to do its apply more throttle and your winch will go faster. They don't over heat very often buy when they break its usaully off to the bin with it.

I've seen them as cheap as $400 up to $1000 for a complete set. You will also want the bracketry that comes with them unless you want to build your own mounts into your own bull bar.
