Hi all, I'm new to this scene and before I even get fully commited I have a question.
At present I've found a 1988 Safari short wheel base which has rust around the bottom sill parts of the side windows - not the doors but the station wagon area. I spoke to a bloke from 4WD and Commercial Parts world and he reckons that: A: Second hand windo sills are hard to come by, and, B: they will cost about $150 per side to fix.
Has anybody got any ideas if I should / could go brand new and roughly how much this would all cost? I'm on a tight budget! Feel free to drop me an email: mikeinwaikato@hotmail.com
Cheers,
Mike.

Yep. They all do it. All of them with out exception.
You can pop the window and frame unit out, pull the rubber of and see if you can find salvage it by putting patches in, OR
This is my scheme down the line:
Pull window unit out. Take to the dump.
Replace with single piece of glass and rubber edging. Simple and cheap.
No sliding windows any more, but hey, it was hardly ever a 4 seater.
I have put a little how-to in regaurd to the side windows in the Safari Tech section
