Reefton tracks - no name road etc

Postby scs » Tue May 27, 2008 5:00 pm

HI there,

few of the boys looking at going upto reefton w/e after qbw for a bit of an explore. Is no name road currently open? can you also recommend some good tracks to go on, keen to check out the caves and the old gold minig areas etc. Always keen for a challenge, bearing in mind the trucks arent heavily modified (31" muds diff lockers bout as far as it goes atm). Information on these tracks/how to get there would be great!

No Name is in behind reymouth, not Reefton, dependent on level of greenstone river. You can go inh at Kumara and come out at shantytown. Reefton area, Waitahu river just nth of Reefton, Slab hut creek, petrol head hill, green hut, big river. That should keep you all busy fo a weekend.

I'm about 5km from the shantytown end of noname road. It's been as dry as it gets lately but I haven't been far into that track recently.

Well looking at the weather lately, they will be wet and slippery. MT's essential for any area around there. Some of them are grade five in areas others grade 3. Depends on how good the parties driving skills are, and how much they want to bite off. Only way to find out is to explore. As for Big River, easy as piss as long as you stay on the main track. Go off and your in for hard yakka shit in places.
